Feel like I’m losing it
« on: January 20, 2025, 10:35:40 PM »

Here it goes….. Had a partial hysterectomy in my mid 40’s due to prolapse. Ovaries intact. I am now 61 and intermittently over the past maybe 5 years have dealt with anger, low tolerance of people, overwhelming sadness, crying about everything, palpitations off the chain. PMH to include Hasimotos since my first born was 6 weeks old (31) now. Panic disorder 28 years ago, based off of 1 incident but definite anxiety disorder. Cardiac work up over the years negative. Use to have runs of PAT’s controlled with beta blocker. December 29 my heart takes on a new jump, Afib. For years I am way to in tune with every beat my heart makes. I could sit still and take my pulse, feel PAC, PVC, etc. Needless to say, a trip to ER was warranted only to be put in waiting room for 5 hours and I self converted to NSR. For years I have suggested that menopause symptoms and GERD are playing a major part on my heart rhythm, anxiety. Over the past week I wake at 3 am nightly, feeling of doom. Flush feeling without sweating. I dread getting out of bed but laying in bed doesn’t help either. I’ve been put on blood thinner and prescribed an anti arrhythmia drug that at this time I am extremely hesitant to take. I describe how I feel to my Docs is that my body is out of harmony. I want to find peace again and free from health anxiety 😢😢😢🙏🏼. Words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated 💖

... and breath. From where I'm sitting eating breakfast these symptoms sound hormonal.  Time to ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause Clinic sooner rather than later because there are waiting lists both in the NHS and private sector.

It may be that you have a surge of cortisol in the early hours: I would wake terrified !  My GP prescribed betablockas, 1 at night.  They really helped.

MayB keeping a mood/food/symptom diary would be of use.  Who suggested the current medication, have U been referred to the appropriate Consultant?

It's a long while to suffer!

Morning JeanS 🙂

Firstly, you have hashi's so I would make sure that all things thyroid were optimal for you. Don't rely on your GP saying your TSH is in range so you're ok.
The reason I'm saying this is that adequate thyroid hormones are needed for the whole body to work as it should. Some/a lot of the things you describe I've experienced at one time or another in my quest to get my thyroid optimal.

As this is a menopause forum, the first thing some posters will tell you is that you definitely need HRT. A lot of assumptions are made when you're "a certain age" which are not necessarily right. (Indeed I may be well off the mark when querying your thyroid status!)

You may well benefit from HRT but rather than jumping into that and adding another medication into the mix, I would make sure your pre-existing thyroid condition is controlled properly. Anxiety, palpitations/odd heart sensations, low tolerance of everything, sleep issues, digestive and stomach issues can all be linked to hypothyroidism.

All hormones work in conjunction with each other so it can get a bit complicated and confusing as to what is going on.

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for your suggestion. Been a couple years since I’ve seen endocrinologist. Called today to see an outstanding MD I saw over 3 years ago. Fingers crossed she will see me as she is not taking on anymore patients past 3 years. If not I will find another.

Hi. It's 7.50 a.m. and we are up  :o.  as Husband is off to an archery competition - way, way too early  ;D.  Dawn is breaking with a pink/red sky against blue - rain is 4cast.

How do U feel now?

Have a day at a time.  Don't look to far ahead.  I find making lists each evening and ticking off the following day, enables me to C what I have achieved.
