Post menopause
« on: January 16, 2025, 10:10:17 AM »

Hi everyone.  I am nearly 3 years post menopause.  For over a year now, i have been having what i call episodes.  Started one a week and now can be 3 a day.  Doctor suggested that it could be hot flushes but i dont feel any heat or sweating.  I can feel it coming on, feel anxious most days but its like it builds up and i feel overwhelmed then i feel shaky, also get a smell in my nose.  It only lasts for a minute or so but very strange feeling.  Has anyone else experienced this? not sure if its even menopause related.  Thank you

This could come under the umbrella of vasomotor symptoms, not everyone experiences heat or flushing.

The smell would be more unusual though - perhaps someone will respond who has experienced this.

The only way to find out if it is related to the loss of your ovarian hormones is to replace the hormones and see if it goes away.

If it does you have your answer. If not then I would seek further medical investigation. (However there are many other benefits to remaining on hormone therapy than just suppressing vasomotor symptoms).

Does it happen after a visit to the loo, I get sudden nausea after a bowel movement.  Enough to need to lay down or sit still for 20 mins..

Flushing presents in several different ways.  MayB keeping a mood/food/symptom diary would chart progress?

Do be aware of vaginal atrophy too: 4warned is 4armed ;-)

Browse round.  Make notes ;-). Ask away.

Ovaries can still cause problems if they are in any way active.
