Spotting in-between periods
« on: January 13, 2025, 10:08:27 AM »

Morning everyone. New to the forum. Looking for some advice please.  Over the last 5 months my periods have gone a bit wild.

In August I had a yellow discharge 4 days after my period. My September period was 22 days later.

October and November normal. 3 days after November period I started spotting, it lasted 2 days. I phoned the doc and she wasn't concerned as it was within the 7 day after my period.

December period was 12 days late. I started spotting 12 days after that period. I have an appointment at the doctors on Friday to have my cervix looked at and swabs taken.  I am a totally nervous wreck. My smesr tests is up to date and I'm not due my smear until August 2026.

Is spotting normal during peri  menopause.

I don't take any HRT.

Thanks you

Yep.   My periods waxed and waned for several years B4 menopause = last monthly bleed - happened.

At the end of many periods I would have a break of 2/3 days B4 a brown discharge.  It's probably due to not enough hormones to cleanse the womb completely, therefore a 'show'.  Can be brown, deep red, pink .........

Browse round.  Make notes.  Do read the threads about bladder issues and vaginal atrophy: 4armed is 4warned ;-)

This is an absolutely normal part of perimenopause and as long as your examination and cervical screening are negative you have nothing to worry about.

Ovaries generally stutter and malfunction for a variable length of time before failing completely, so it is rare for someone to go from a completely regular cycle to nothing without some irregularity along the way.

However this also doesn't mean that you have to just put up with it - there are multiple bleed free treatment options that you can discuss with your GP.

Nobody has to bleed at all in 2025 unless they want to.

Yes, as CLKD and Bombsh3ll have said, spotting during peri is absolutely normal.

But good to get checked out to put your mind at rest.
