Update on PMB
« on: January 07, 2025, 04:29:23 PM »

Hi

So I just wanted to update as I had my scan today following the episode of post meno bleeding I had in December.

A consultant did the scan so she talked me through everything,  said lining is within normal limits,  it's on the upper end of normal but she said it's smooth and uniformed with no lumps or bumps.  Ovaries look good apart for a 1cm simple cyst on one which she said could have caused the bleed.  Her feeling is it was a hormone surge,  ovaries tried to produce an egg to no avail and the cyst is left over from that but she said it can just be enough sometimes to trigger the lining to shed.

It would go along with the symptoms,  five day bleed,  sore boobs before,  feeling just off and wobbly like I used to before a bleed and the copious watery discharge in the weeks beforehand.

So feel  lot better after that and now just have to wait for the Dr to see if she still wants the endometrial biopsy.

However,  she scanned my kidneys whilst I was there and said had I suffered from UTI's which I used to have frequently as a small child.  I said not so much recently but I did when I was little and she said one of my kidneys is smaller and scarred.  Cue Health Anxiety meltdown,  so I asked if it could be cancer to which she said "No,  I'm not concerned but I will just reference it for your GP".  I asked what it means and she said more often it is due to infections in the past and in childhood,  she said it's probably been there for years but I've never had my kidneys scanned before so wouldn't have known about it.  She said my other kidney was perfectly fine and healthy/normal size  but I should just keep an eye on BP as it can make your more susceptible.

So my relief over the PMB quickly subsided!  I spoke to my mum after and she said I had awful UTI's as a child to the point that as nothing was working the Dr was about to refer me to the hospital for checks on my kidneys.  However,  they tried one last ditch attempt on a strong antibiotic and it did the trick.  I then remained pretty much UTI free until my adult years where I've had the odd one here and there.

Just working on my HA now to try and rationalise that I have had the most common cause for this happening but the irrational voice is trying to tell me my kidneys are failing.  God I hate Health Anxiety!!

Anyway wanted to post as you were all very kind in replying to try and calm me down when it happened in December!

Tnx.  It is well known amongst adults that little girls often suffer with urine infections due to the bad design  >:( ! Hands touch personal places transferring germs from back to front = urine infections.  Might be worth while your GP bringing that info to the front of your medical records for future reference.

As you've been told the kidneys become scarred ....... my friend with similar renal history has also got 2.5 kidneys so needs to drink regularly.

Blood tests would show if kidneys are 'failing'.  Why do U think the worst?  The Consultant didn't appear concerned?

.... and breath.

I know CLKD,  it's just the nature of the beast  with my HA and overall I do feel a lot better.

I actually remembered what you had said previously about going to these type of appointments alone and that's exactly what I did.  Put on my big girl pants and decided I just needed to do it,  do you know I was actually less stressed by myself.  Apart from the anxiety during the test and my usual catastrophising about the kidney,  I wasn't anywhere near as bad as I've been in the past when I've had my mum or hubby with me.

Weird but it almost felt like I didn't need to explain anything to anyone and I could just process everything and then control when  and what I told them.

I can breath now and if the Dr's want to follow up on it they can do,  as you said the consultant wasn't overly concerned and she wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't reference it.

I'm the same re anxiety - OK with DH but it's years since I've shopped with any1 else along.  Don't want to keep justifying myself!

How do U feel overall?

Overall better,  if the Dr still wants a biopsy then I'm ok with it and I'll be guided by them.  As for the Kidney,  I'll wait and see if I hear from the GP,  if not then I will mention it next time I'm there.

Thanks for all your kind words and being the voice of reason :)
