I've done a puzzle in Sat Telegraph about capital cities: I have had to google Earth a dozen as they were totally unknown to me.  So I've been around the World without moving from the sofa  ;D

R U packed?  As long as no one is going to Santorina as the Island has been evacuated due to 4.5 tremors out at C  :o

My paternal grandad could tell the rain was approaching as his bones ached.

Nope.

Trains to Paris are suspended due to a bomb at the Gard du Nord.  The tunnel is open for other services.

I am supposed to be travelling to Paris on Eurostar in a couple of weeks from now to do a short river cruise. Fingers crossed!

Initially the Chunnel was closed from both ends.

Recent announcement : An unexploded World War Two bomb found near Gare du Nord station in Paris was defused on Friday after trains to and from the station were cancelled.

French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said all Eurostar trains to and from the city had been cancelled until the end of the day, with normal services expected to resume on Saturday.

He said local rail traffic would return to normal from 17:00 GMT after French police evacuated 200 people from homes in Saint-Denis and temporarily closed part of the suburb's main ring road.

The 500kg bomb was found two metres deep at a building site about a mile north of Gare du Nord, where rail workers were putting up a new bridge over the railway lines.

That info mentions Eurostar to Paris.  Not the Shuttle (only goes to Calais), nor the Eurostar to other cities.  And then there's the freight, heaven knows about that.

Do any Hotels have direct phone lines anymore?  It's book.com type websites, the Hotel that advertises phoning to chat goes answer machine: my message of 24 hours ago hasn't been responded to  >:(

I phoned another Hotel directly at 11.00 and somehow got through to the Kitchen  ;D - well at least that was a start!  sent an e-mail on their request form, still waiting to hear back.  Nothing on their web-site saying that phone lines are manned after Noon!

It'll be quicker to drive to Derbyshire and ask for a room on the day!

We were planning to go to France in the ( yes!) Chunnel this year but still haven’t got around to booking it. We usually holiday in uk as I hate flying. Went to Torquay last year it was fab. Booking . Com usually quite easy to use, so I generally do it that way. I’ll get around to booking eventually, hopefully!

Many years ago we stayed at The Grand in Torquay - with a balcony but 1 had to push up a sash window and step over the sill onto it.   ;D
