Soap, shower gel, shampoo, washing up liquid
« on: January 01, 2025, 03:31:58 PM »

I'm in such a bad mood.

Anyone else notice how soap of all kinds does not lather anymore unless you use twice the amount?  Meanwhile the tap is running, waiting for you to fiddle with the dispenser to get enough to get it to lather, so you are paying for that.

Younger people won't understand, they don't know any different.  Maybe the rest of you don't understand.  Maybe it's me.  Sorry in too much of a bad mood (which I know isn't about that it's hormones but still it's real and I notice it even when in a good mood) to laugh about it.  Just tried to wash my hands, faffing about with the dispenser, it falls over, soap on the draining board, tap running the whole time, no soap on my hands, finally it's on them and then it doesn't lather.

Laugh if you want, I'll understand but I can't atm.  I'm not taking kindly to changes that are happening.

Lathering is made by sodium laurel sulphate which is a frothing agent.  In most products that we add to water including toothpaste.  Which makes my mouth burn  :o

I noted recently that 'dove' hand soap doesn't lather ....... my bubbles in the bath however are delightful.  Sorry  ::)

Switch off the tap!  I put the soap onto my hands first, rubbing palms together.  Then switch on the tap.  Whether it lathers or not, a good quality product will still cleanse.

What's next on the list to annoy you?  We have a thread "I need to moan" or similar ;-)

Oh God was I moaning about that again  ;D

I'm not in a bad mood now but seriously, I've ALWAYS done this a certain way and I'm not going to change now.  The soap would always lather.

The soap or it's manufacturer is the villain here.  ;D

As far as washing up liquid goes I'm now using Fairy.  I always thought Fairy was the most expensive but it still lathers where the others don't.  Even the cheaper ones used to.  So from now on it's fairy.  Sorry, not advertising here, but it costs me more to buy the cheaper ones and USE HALF A BOTTLE to try and get it to lather.  ;D

It's not you, it's a real thing!

NOTHING is as good as it used to be, the quality and quantity of pretty much everything I buy these days has gone down, at the same time as the price has gone up!

I can't use Fairy - anything that strips grease off plates will strip moisture from hands!

I don't have problems with the supermarket own brands.

I used to think my parents were just old when they said this (they were in their 30's)   ;D

But it's true, thankyou bombsh3ll, and I think it's been more sudden and evident in the past 5 years, I think a lot of cost cutting.

I can't stand grease  ;D

I never had problem with supermarket own brands till recently.  I loved Magnum from aldi, but in the past week I bought some and had to use half a bottle to get a lather, it might have just been a bad batch and I'll give it another go.

Apparently, we’re doing ourselves more harm than good washing with antibacterial products.
Ever since Covid, it’s antibacterial for this, antibacterial for that, and it’s causing more trouble for our own systems to fight things off.

Yes I agree jillydoll, I don't use antibacterial.  My obsession with a lather is more about the washing happening smoothly, not having to get more soap in the middle of a shower with water going everywhere.  Oh heck it's still annoying me just talking about it  ;D

Hello ladies.

My main complaint is with loo paper rolls.
They are significantly smaller than they were so I assume they contain less paper. I noticed this because we have free standing loo roll holders and I used to fill them from the top however the rolls now are so thin that I can slide them in from the side ( if you see what I mean).

I think a lot of products are reducing their quality or quantity but not necessarily reducing their price.

Take care ladies.

Thankyou Kathleen!  Exactly!  Change, and not for the better.

I hadn't noticed anything too significant with the loo rolls but I am always fussy with them too  ;D if they pass my finger and thumb squeeze test in the shop then I know they'll be ok.  I can't stand any where the paper is so thin it tears as you try to take it off the roll.

Winds me up a treat that sort of thing  ::) ;D

Andrex aren’t what they used to be either.   I have found a cheap decent alternative at one of the supermarkets
