Hi all,

So had my coil fitted a month ago, first period seemed to last 2 weeks, my one this month hasn't really come, felt like it was going to, bled a little but not much just the usual you get after the coil fitting.  At the moment I have constant discharge (soz!) some days heavier than others but not much at all.
Is this just how it'll be for a few months?  I had it checked a week ago and everything is in position fine, the doc said hers took 7 months to settle down.
I was getting bad cramps though on and off at sporadic times.

She said also to maybe up my Estrogel to 3 pumps to help with the sleep etc, but I found it made my anxiety worse, is that also possible?  Back on 2 now as that was my original prescription and today has been better, but does it work that quickly?!

Any bleeding is not a 'period' on the Mirena. It is going to thin the lining by making you bleed and then the bleeding will slow down and stop with the Mirena maintaining that thin lining.

A period refers to the shedding of the lining every cycle after ovulation when fertilisation hasn't occurred. This isn't what is happening with any bleeding after a Mirena is fitted. You will randomly bleed for several months with it slowing until it stops entirely.

Hi Joziel,
Many thanks for this, the first time I was due on after having it fitted was like a full on period, but as I say lasted for weeks, so to know it wasn't a period this makes much more sense with what's happening as just the constant light bleed daily at the moment.

Thank you for explaining as I don't think either of my doctors actually did!!

I think a lot of doctors don't understand, themselves(!).

You will likely still cycle on Mirena because it doesn't stop ovarian function for most women. But you probably won't know where you are, in your cycle, because you won't bleed.
