Vaginal atrophy
« on: December 21, 2024, 09:35:19 AM »

Looking for advice is it safe to use Vagifem 10 micrograms daily for a short time during a flare up . One Doctor said it was fine to use daily for up to a year another said no only twice a week .
Any advice would be helpful . Thank you .

I've been using it daily for four years, its perfectly safe to do this.
When your symptoms ease you can then reduce dosage if you want to, your choice.

The short answer is YES!…….i might be wrong but I’m sure Vagifem is one of the most expensive brands therefore costly to the NHS hence this could be one of the factors why they suggest only using twice weekly. My mums pharmacy confirmed that alternative are offered based solely on cost. I also read somewhere the current form is considerably lower in dosage to what it was when it was first introduced.

The information in VA medication leaflets is OUT of date, Dr Newson is trying to get Companies to class it as medication rather than HRT.  VA treatment is safe to use every night when necessary and when symptoms flair for me, I put an extra dose of 'estriol' up in the afternoon and then every night for 5.

Some find that 'sylc' or 'yes' products on the outer labia eases soreness or inserting 'vagifem' and using 'estriol/ovestin' externally.

Let us know how you get on.
