Yoghurt and thrush
« on: December 14, 2024, 01:12:37 PM »

Just had a bout of thrush again, self diagnosed and oral tablet of fluconazole from chemist that has worked. Been free of it for over 18 months but been suffering with anxiety lately because of palpatations so wasn't surprised. I've been anxious since October when the palpatations started but they are now settling so was a bit surprised I'd not had thrush before as it was stress induced last time. That got me thinking could it be caused by something else. I recently started eating a lot of greek yogurt again for breakfast with live cultures inc lactobacillus, I've not eaten it for a long while.  I know it's supposed to be good for thrush with the live cultures but maybe not always, especially if you have a lower immune system caused by anxiety or illness.
I googled, as you do and came up with this:

Cytolytic vaginosis.
Symptoms of lactobacillus overgrowth, also known as cytolytic vaginosis, include:
Itching or irritation of the vulva
Abnormal vaginal discharge that is white or yellowish
Painful urination (dysuria)
Painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
Red and inflamed vulvar skin
A burning sensation.

Might just be coincidence but I will not be eating anymore. Thought I'd post as I know there's a few of us suffer with thrush.  Usually we're advised to eat more yoghurt to get rid of it which might not alway be the right answer and could be making it worse.
When I had recurring thrush 18 months ago I ate lots of greek yoghurt to try to help but it just kept coming back.

Tnx for that info..

I've always found LIVE Greek yogurt to ease thrush symptoms, eaten and applied ;-) - to cleanse the digestive system from top to bottom

This is interesting about the yoghurt, thanks for sharing.
FYI You can get the tablets on Amazon no problem.   I also stock up when in Spain as you can just buy them in the pharmacy with no age questions!

Hello ladies.

I have never suffered from thrush but I thought the odea was to apply the yogurt tropically.  When eaten perhaps the live cultures persist in the urine or poo and they migrate to the vagina?

I have posted before about a US study which proved E Coli from consumed  chickens caused  UTIs.

Our  anatomy means that bugs can easily move from one area to another, this was the case for the chicken E Coli so perhaps it applies to thrush as well?

Take care ladies.

K.

I said it was for my daughter too. I wasn't waiting a week for an appointment at the doctors then another week for swab results to come back just to be prescribed the same as what i got OTC.
The over 60 rule is in case you have liver or kidney problems or another illness that could be causing thrush.

I think I'll get some from amazon just in case, pack of 3 for £9.99. Hopefully this one has worked as I was able to take one straight away.

Ok thanks CLKD. I took ibuprofen as well for a few days as the combination of that and fluconazole is supposed to work better. I really hope that's the end of it, I do get so anxious with any ailment now and having to lie and do a DIY job to get medication straight away doesn't help. I know if I'd waited for the doctors and swab results the candida would have been a lot worse and took a lot longer to get rid of causing me a lot of unnecessary distress.

Thanks LDP,  just ordered pk of 3 on Amazon for £8.99, no questions asked and free delivery. They are the same generic ones I'd had before from a prescription.
