Evorel Conti & Citalopram
« on: November 24, 2024, 12:33:33 AM »

Hi guys, first post here as I’ve just joined the forum. Thank you for allowing me to join.

I should start by saying that about seven years ago (mid 40s then) I woke up feeling like my life had ended. Nothing to make me feel sad had happened but I seemed to have developed depression and anxiety overnight.

Went to see my GP and mentioned at the time that my periods were all over the show after being clockwork since the age of ten. He discounted that and prescribed Citalopram which I’ve been on ever since.

Then a few years ago I started with other menopausal symptoms such as itching, hot flushes fatigue etc.

I’ve put up with that for years but recently went back to my GP and saw a lovely older female doctor this time.  She straight away said that all the symptoms I’m having are menopausal and prescribed Evorel Conti patches.

I’ve only been on them about ten days but the difference is incredible. No night sweats, the fatigue has lifted and although it’s not gone all together, the brain fog seems to be lifting.

Now here’s the problem. The GP didn’t say to drop the Citalopram so I’ve been continuing with that but the last few days I’ve felt totally manic.

Not in a bad way, just completely hyper and dancing/singing all the time.

I’m now wondering if I should never have been on Citalopram to start with as it was my hormones causing the anxiety/depression rather than a clinical illness. Obviously don’t want to go cold turkey but wondering if I need to start to wean myself off it.

I will raise it with the GP when I go back for a review in a couple of months but just wondered if anyone else has had something similar happen to them?
