My story so far
« on: November 21, 2024, 05:32:35 PM »

Hi everyone, my name is Donna and I am 44 years old.  For the last 2 years or more I have suffered in silence thinking what is wrong with me, why am I feeling so down all the time, I'm letting all my family down and felt exhausted.  Was told I was depressed last year but anti depressants did not work and felt even worse.  Upon speaking to family and friends they commented that maybe its the menopause!!!  Having looked up the symptoms I pretty much have most of them (change in periods, painful knees, hot flushes, tiredness, feeling low, loss of sex drive, memory issues)!
I have PCOS and in the last 2 years my periods have decided to become regular (every 3 weeks), painful and more heavy.  My main issue is the extreme tiredness, I have absolutely zero energy to do anything most days regardless of how much or little sleep I have had!  This is having a massive impact on my mental health and my relationship with my husband/friends!  I just feel like i dont fit it anywhere with anyone.
I had an appointment yesterday with a nurse who listened to me and agreed that this may be the peri menopause but before I start on hrt I have to have another blood test and an ultrasound scan.  Fingers crossed this all goes well and I can start the medication as I have had enough of feeling like this now....  Will keep you updated...

Hi!  U fit right in here  :foryou:    :welcomemm:

MayB get blood tests for thyroid function, iron count and VitD levels.  Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress, something to discuss with your prescribing practitioner.

Is it a womb ultrasound?  Is this a Nurse Practitioner with menopause knowledge, hopefully discussing your symptoms will help to build a working relationship with her.  There are dedicated menopause clinics, both NHS and the private sector have waiting lists.

Do read the 'bladder issues' and vaginal atrophy threads: 4warned is 4armed ;-). Browse round. Make notes !

Thank you  :)
Yes appointment was with a women's health nurse who seemed knowledgeable about all matters relating to menopause x
The ultrasound is for the ovaries and womb as they need to rule out polyps first before commencing hrt.

MayB point the Nurse in the direction of MM ;-).  There is a magazine too which may be helpful to the Staff.
