Hysterectomy?
« on: November 21, 2024, 02:46:26 PM »

Hi all

I don’t know how much more I can take this. Perimenopause is having such an impact on me.

I wanted to ask if any of you have gone down the route of asking for a hysterectomy, and if so, did it help?

My hormones are all over the place and anxiety is having a massive impact on my health and life. I don’t know if I can keep on with this for potentially years.

I’m already on hrt, and it was helping however the more I move into the meno journey, the worse I’m feeling.

Been on hrt for 2 years. I have 100m Estrodot patches and 15 on 15 off on utrogestan. I also have a dab on testosterone when I’m feeling particularly bad.

Also taking 20mg fluoxetine daily. My GP tried raising that to 30mg but I felt so spaced out that I chose to go back to 20.

If anyone has any advice, I would so appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi Katie. I'm sorry you are feeling so dreadful. Do you mean an oophorectomy which is the removal of your ovaries rather than a hysterectomy removing the uterus or do you also have bleeding problems?

I don’t know to be honest.

Bleeding pretty much fortnightly now.

I am just at my wits end. I have to see my GP in a couple of weeks for a review on my anxiety.

Hi Katie

I don't have any answers, but I sat iny GPs surgery earlier this year and cried for a hysterectomy or something to make this stop.

The temporary thing to try in this case is chemical menopause. Usually via monthly/3 monthly injection. Although I use a daily nose spray.

It shuts all your hormones down. And mimics an oomporectomy. But should also stop bleeding as you'll have no hormones.

The majority of woman need hrt add back.

It is temporary. Which is good. It's often trialed before drastic surgery.

The only reason to try it would be if you think it's fluctuations causing your problems. Because it will take your hormones to those of a 90 year old in a matter of weeks. If your symptoms are caused by low E, it'll enhance them!

Personally, I've found the whole experience hell. But I have a seemingly very unique problem. And am now off to endocrinology about it.

It's definitely worth looking into. A GP cannot prescribe though. And, as per the news the other day, there's like a 2 year wait for gynae. 😞. I paid  because I have absolutely no quality of life  :(.

Thank you Crispy. It’s the absolute emotional rollercoaster and anxiety that is completely destroying me. Everything else I can cope with, although the daily aches have also recently started.

I will look into the chemical therapy.

Hi, I am 8 weeks post hysterectomy with ovaries removed and it’s been a game changer. Mine was for different reasons though as I was had a huge fibroid as well as 3 others, this meant the impact on my bladder was debilitating and my periods were so bad I couldn’t leave the house. I was absolutely terrified but once I was told it there wasn’t any choice I was strangely calm. Anyway, sorry to waffle, it’s been such a positive experience for me personally, I would say talk it through with a specialist and if it’s an option it can be amazing. Good luck x

Jazziegirl. Can I ask how much HRT you're needing to take post op?

Good to hear it's all working out for you. X

Hi Katie
I am in same boat - 6 months off work and not much better. Have tried citalopram too and it nearly killed me and two nights of mirtazapine was like a zombie with restless legs. Now stuck as to what to do next. I feel the worst I have ever felt in my life with debilitating anxiety. Is there a way that those of us who are suffering like this can make contact and have a group chat/ zoom thing to try and suppprt each other ? I’m desperate to meet other women who understand this and how bad it is and offer mutual support xx
