Stopping HRT
« on: November 19, 2024, 05:24:26 PM »

Hello ladies.  I haven’t been on here for sometime but I would really appreciate some advice please. Long story short, I’ve been on HRT now for 20 years (I’m 70 now). I was taking PrempakC and was doing well on it until they discontinued them about 7 years ago.  Since then I’ve tried loads of different regimes but haven’t been able to find anything  that either manages symptoms or doesn’t  give horrendous side effects.  At my last doctors appointment, she said she thought my symptoms were being caused by the HRT as I’d been on it so long and encouraged me to try to come off.  She wanted to try me on a low dose anti depressant , alongside my patches to start with, with a view to stopping altogether.  I agreed to try, although I thought SSRI’s were used to help with hot flushes only and I have many other symptoms.

I’ve been keeping a diary for the last few months and I’ve definitely noticed that the patches make me feel awful....painful muscles and joints, tiredness, tinnitus, nausea, headaches etc.  I’m not sure if the ad’s are helping to be honest.  I’ve stopped the patches and will just carry on with the ad’s to see what happens but I’m not going to hold my breath.  I’ve got a follow up appointment t next week.

Sorry for long message but I just wanted to ask if anyone had had experiences like mine and if they had successfully stopped their HRT and also, any advice on how they had managed to do this and how long it had taken.

Thanks everso.  Rosie xx

Hi it might be that your symptoms are caused by low oestrogen and not the patches that are causing them.
