Thickened cervix while on HRT
« on: November 18, 2024, 11:21:54 AM »

I had a cervical scan in May which showed a thickened cervix of 15 mm.  The gynaecologist dismissed this result as the thickness was normal at 5 mm when I had the mirena coil inserted in March.
Despite the pain I experienced from a badly fitted coil, the gynaecologist didn’t advise going ahead with the hysteroscopy.  However the pain was so bad during the night that I booked myself into the emergency gynaecological ward to have it removed the next week.  The gp practice offered no help at all.  Subsequently I experienced withdrawal symptoms after stopping taking HRT (the coil and evorel 50 patches).  After 6 weeks I saw a menopause specialist via Newson Health who put me back on Evorel 50 patches and utrogestan 200 mg despite the gynaecologist advising taking no HRT for 3 months because I was continuing to suffer from palpitations during the night brought on after the fitting of the coil.  It was my 3 month review last month so I found another specialist who has advised my gp to arrange a cervical scan urgently due to the result of my scan in May!  I have started bleeding again slightly so the GP doesn’t want to prescribe a repeat of the HRT due to fact that there may be cancer.  I’m worried about coming off HRT again while waiting for the scan which can take up to 4 weeks 😞

U R seeing too many medics with different advice!

Gynaecologists often have little more idea about treatment menopause than GPs seem to have!

How long did the 'withdrawal' symptoms last?  How does the Gynae know that the palpitations are caused by HRT because they can often be due to low oestrogen levels.

Make an appt with Newson health or ring/send an e-mail today then stick to what they suggest.  Why would there be 'cancer', which research is he/she referring to?

R U taking the HRT currently?

Thanks for your reply.

I was referred to the gynaecologist after the cervical scan - I just don’t know why he didn’t make sure the hysteroscopy went ahead as my current specialist advises - Spiced Pear Health … she was going to increase my patches to evorel 75 but wanted to check my cervix again first.  It is weird that I’m getting period pain type symptoms again a very light blood loss when I’m taking 200 mg utrogestan 😣. Looks like I’m going to have to come off HRT and hope that I soon get offered a scan 🙏

My withdrawal symptoms lasted about 2 months as I took no HRT at all for 6 weeks then it took a few weeks for my body to adjust to the HRT again

Do ring the dept who will be doing the scan because it isn't always necessary to stop.

I wish I could but I don’t know which hospital I will be invited to as there are three of them 🤔
