Bleeding mirena coil
« on: November 18, 2024, 10:39:58 AM »

Hi, sorry for long post!! I’m a few years post menopausal, started hrt patches 2.5 years ago & had bleeding, long story short, tried lots of different options, still bleeding so had mirena coil fitted a year ago.  This didn’t stop the bleeding, had ultrasound & my endometrium has now thickened to 5.9mm. GP referred me for cancer &  I had an appointment at hospital with gynaecologist still waiting for some results to come back but most are clear.  Gynae said I need to stop the hrt as nothing will stop the bleeding, I asked about a d&c as my GP has mentioned I may need one but gynae was no, won’t make a difference stop the hrt. Now I’m confused, do I go for the d&c or stop the hrt, either option doesn’t sound great. Just wondering has anyone had similar options given to them.

If it were me and I had genuinely exhausted all progestin options I would have a hysterectomy rather than no HRT.

You would then be able to take estrogen alone with no worries.
