Sandrena - has it changed?
« on: November 17, 2024, 08:36:41 AM »

Hi,

I've been on HRT for around 3 years. Utrogestan (urghhhh another story) and originally Oestrogel, which I LOVED until it changed and I reluctantly switched to Sandrena. This has been pretty good - but I do hate that it's so sticky and slow drying. A few weeks ago, I was noticing it was less sticky which was very welcome.... however, over this time I have become increasingly tired and been more confused. I put this down to stress at work and kind of ignored it. But after waking up in a pool of sweat on Saturday, I suddenly realised it could be low oestrogen.

Now I've been through all this before with Oestrogel so I don't want to hear how pharmaceutical companies have quality control and it's all in my head. I also don't want to hear that my own hormones fluctuate and that could be the cause because I know that. I went into a very dark place on 'new' Oestrogel and I wish I'd have trusted my instincts sooner and not been persuaded that old Oestrogel = new Oestrogel

I was just wondering if anyone else has either found that Sandrena recently is less sticky and/or it is weaker. I am trialling increasing my dose. Really hoping this works. I'm only 51 and do not want the brain of a donkey!!

Any help would be much appreciated xxx

Hello Banjo1973

I have been using Sandrena gel since April this year. It hasn't done much to help me emotionally but I was surprised to have a few episodes of night sweats recently. I was also very anxious and jittery yesterday and this morning I woke with a  headache which I hadn't had for a while.

I wondered if I had been spreading the gel more thinly than usual and perhaps this was causing a return of symptoms. The gel feels the same and still takes ages to dry.

Alternatively it could just be another example of me being very post meno and my HRT regime not working very well generally. In fact non of my HRT regimes have hit the spot and that may be because I was three years post meno before I even started HRT.

Hopefully other ladies will be along to add their comments.

Wishing you well and take care.

Thanks Kathleen,

I have also been jittery. I'll keep trying with 3mg and see how I go.

Good luck with your hrt journey xxx

I've been on Sandrena since the end of 2018 and I've not noticed any difference/changes in all the time I've been using it (very post meno BTW).  Generally I'm on 1mg, but have been doing a smidge more with a second sachet lasting 10 days for the past 6 months, so I guess I'm currently on 1.1mg.

Decided to try an increase as I was getting a bit of nighttime anxiety, and even such a small amount has sorted that.

Thanks so much for replying, I actually do feel a bit more energetic today (2 days with and extra 1mg).

I guess I might have to accept its  me changing and not the Sandrena!!!

Will you be able to get 3mg still from your GP? I was going to post about this because my surgery has become very twitchy since THAT Panorama program and are trying to say Sandrena is only licensed up to 1.5 mg and they have been told to stick to the rules.... I have an appointment to discuss week after next. It makes no sense as 3mg of Sandrena equates to 4 pumps of oestrogel at .75 per pump. But hey ho, another battle.

… this is interesting.  I had to switch from Oestrogel when that stopped working over a year ago. reported that etc and switched to Sandrena that was working well, however the last 3 months I have experienced some night sweats, the odd headache and even the aura headache - meaning low oestrogen - I take 2mg daily/morning with 100 utrogestan/at night. I have ended up taking 3mg the odd day to see if it helps, which it does.

Been logging a diary and didn’t think there may be an issue with this one - assumed it was my body needing more. My Dr will only prescribe 2mg maximum.

Interesting.. see if anyone else flags this 🤔

Thank you!

Maybe it's the cynic in me, now that Sandrena is in much greater demand, is there a chance the quality might be affected?

Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood!

I'm sticking to 3mg for now I'll see how that goes. So far, so good.
