HRT Side Affects - when do you give up?
« on: November 13, 2024, 10:14:52 AM »

So I’ve posted on here previously asking for feedback on tibolone, well I decided to give it a try and I’m now 6 weeks in.

I know they say 3 months for side affects to settle but I’m 6 weeks in and side affects are not improving?

My body itself feels the best it’s felt since surgical menopause 3 years ago, energetic, agile, strong, weight is finally coming off, BUT, it’s brought my hormonal migraines back (which had been controlled fine on just Lenzetto) and tibolone is giving me such severe brain fog and confusion that I couldn’t remember my own sons name yesterday and the other day I completely forgot how to make a cup of tea even though I drink one every morning, I’ve also been driving in the car and totally forgot where I was driving to (didn’t have brain fog before Tibilone), I’m suffering general headaches and irritability, lack of patience etc since starting tibolone to.

Is 6 weeks enough time to gage if tibolone is the right choice for me? I don’t want to just give up but I also feel like I can’t carry on with these side affects any longer, especially since I actually felt better before starting tibolone?

Hi is there a reason that you changed from Lenzetto? If that suited you can you go back to it?

Ah yeh I think that’s what I’ll do, go back to Lenzetto. It was working well for me although I was a bit lack lustre on it, I changed to tibolone in the hope of getting some energy and libido back x

There is also a fairly new drug to counteract migraines, hopefully your GP will be aware of this?

Would patches not be better than gel, as they give much more stable consistent levels of estrogen than gel, which gives a high spike then drops off.

Sometimes it can be rapidly changing hormone levels that trigger migraines rather than the actual level.

if you felt fine but lack lustre....perhaps you needed to increase the Lenzetto.

Lenzetto is quite low dose, so unless there is a specific reason to choose it, it is probably better to use gel or patches instead. Then you can increase.

If you still felt lack lustre on estrogen, you likely needed a higher dose - and maybe some testosterone as well...
