Early period on HRT patches
« on: November 12, 2024, 07:30:47 PM »

I take Evorel sequi and for the last three months my period has started a few days before I finish the progrsterone/oestrogen patch.
So then I have some spotting for days before the full withdrawl when I swap to oestrogen only.

Do you think it’s ok for me to just stop the progesterone and oestrogen patch when that happens and put the oestrogen only one on early.

I will still have had at least ten days of progesterone at that point 🤔

I do plan to contact my doctor tomorrow to check with them but was wondering if any of you have had this experience before ?
Thank you

Also I wouldn’t stop the progesterone patch and start the other one earlier (that’s what I did a few times) my dr told me off as I wouldn’t of been getting enough progesterone to protect my lining

I had the same problem. Spotting for several days before a proper bleed so it went on for ages. I ended up resyncing it the following month by missing one of the oestrogen only patches, going straight to the combined estrogen and progesterone patch and it worked. Just don't miss out on the progesterone part.

Thank you for your replies. That is reassuring to know it has happened to others as well.
The doctor said it is my body changing and that when they stop altogether I will move to continuous. I asked him how I would know they had stopped as there will always be a withdrawal bleed and he seemed to think they would still stop whilst I am on sequential. I am not sure if this is correct though. Does anyone know ? M
Thanks

Some people stop getting bleeds completely however others continue to get withdrawal bleeding.

It depends partly on the doses used and on your own individual physiology.

If you have no contraindications, the combined pill taken continuously can be a better option to manage this stage instead of trying to fit in sequential HRT around your own cycle. This often doesn't work out well, leading to irregular bleeding, and often more days spent bleeding overall than if you had taken nothing, or if you took continuous HRT.

The pill shuts down your cycle and adds back a consistent low dose of E and P every day, eliminating bleeding and hormonal ups and downs.

So effectively if your own body levels drop low enough the dose of progesterone in the patch might not be enough to always create a withdrawal bleed ?

🤔

Instead of stopping the combined patches early (and maybe not getting enough progestin), it would be better to cut out a couple of the estrogen only patches earlier in the cycle. So you would start the combined patches a couple of days earlier. That way, when you finish should be about when you are already starting to bleed....? And you will get all the progestin in...

Ok that’s a good plan I will try that for next month and see if it helps. Thanks ☺️

I've heard of similar things happening with HRT. Ten days of progesterone is usually enough, but it really depends on your body.

Yeah I had heard that too as with the tablets they said I would have only needed ten days.
I just don’t know what is best. It feels like my cycles are just shorter as each month it has moved a day back further 🙈
