Had results back from the swab test cultured at the hospital on the doctors request. It would appear the strain is still Glabrata. Apparently, a difficult strain to treat. Trust me to get that particular strain. The doctor has said to continue the Boric Acid pessaries as this is the best treatment for Glabrata. I am having better days, but last night was aching most of the night. Still one Boric pessaries to use tonight and then I might try another weeks worth like I had to last year, then do twice a week. I now use vagifem in the morning every other day. Ceased using the estriol cream as it may have been that that caused the thrush. Pleased I kept a diary last time because symptoms and days when I ache are pretty much the same. Hopefully this will all soon be over. Thank you for all your responses, makes one feel I am not alone in this journey. Take care everyone and have a nice day.

I would think that any medication inserted into the vagina is likely to activate thrush rather than a specific product.  When I had a couple of bouts years ago the itch was so high up that I was unable to reach in to scratch!

Did the Doctor give any idea as to why this strain is 'difficult to treat' and is there a support group?  Is it known where abouts in the digestive tract this yeast is likely to be hanging around - ........ if the Boric Acid pessaries are working, use them for as long as necessary.  As with VA treatment ?

I feel for you I really do!  Chronic conditions are so limiting and tiring.   :foryou: :foryou:

Thanks for responding CLKD. Yes quite agree anything inserted into the vagina is likely to activate thrush. Fortunately, I haven’t itched with this strain of thrush so grateful for that. Will have a look for a support group. I have read that it is one of the difficult strains to treat and heard from members of the Atrophy site on Facebook, that they have found it difficult to treat. Glabrata thrush is resistant to the usual thrush remedies.  Still eating live yoghurt, in fact I eat very healthily. Will carry on with the boric pessaries until it clears. Like you say conditions like this are very tiring. Thanks again for your support, it is much appreciated.

Are you taking any additional oestrogen as I have certainly had the worst Candida flares when either had natural oestrogen spikes or tried estradiol replacement?

Thank you for responding. I am using vagifem every other day all though I can use it more regularly if needed. Have been advised to stop estriol cream as thought it might have caused the thrush. May I ask, did your Candida flares cause pain? I seem to have better days, but last night barely slept. Slept like a log the previous night. Not sure whether it is an Atrophy Flare or pain from the yeast infection. Hoping it is just an Atrophy flare. Having to be so careful what I eat had some cooked pepper yesterday and a little spicy sauce. Probably a big mistake. Hope you are okay now. Thanks again.

I had thrush and systemic Candida/SIBO which affected my digestion and mood quite badly. Yes there was pain and I had thought at one point that it was atrophy but the oestrogen topicals all made it worse.

Although Canesten and Fluconazole helped, stopping the oestrogen made the thrush go away completely (which I also agree was not the thick white discharge I occasionally had when younger).

I am still tackling the systemic yeast but have been on Utrogestan only for a week and it seems to be having quite an, unexpected, dramatic effect on reducing the symptoms (of which there are many). Progesterone creams helped but perhaps oral and stronger is why this may be more effective.

Thanks for responding Dangermouse. I am a little better at present, after a bad night. I am taking Oral Kliovance daily and have done so for several years. Mine hasn't been the thick white discharge either plus I haven't itched.  At least I am on the right treatment now with the Boric. Last year I was 7 months on the treatment which my thrush was resistant to. Let's hope we both get some relief very soon.

Glad you have some relief!

Yes, no itching for me either which is why I assumed BV or atrophy - for which those treatments made worse.

My mum doesn’t remember having menopause symptoms but I do remember my Dad taking her to A&E with extreme thrush symptoms that were so bad they assumed something serious was wrong.

Thanks again for responding. My mum who is now 97 and still very able didn’t suffer any menopause symptoms not even a hot flush. Funny how we are all different. I have decided I am coming back as a man or a dog. Take care.

I would like to return as a cat, knowing my Luck I'd be an Alley cat  :D.  As a complete aside, I spent 3 hours last night watching videos of cats/dogs doing silly things  ::).  Cant' remember how I got there either  :-\
