Heavy Yeast Growth again
« on: November 09, 2024, 12:01:23 PM »

Sorry, I have already posted this but in the wrong section. I have had a really good few months after last years 7 months of thrush and on the treatments of Fluconazole and Canisten which my strain of thrush was resistant too. Anyway, it would appear I have got heavy yeast again. Last time I cleared it up with three weeks Boric acid pessaries. I have used a fortnights boric acid pessaries but the swab has come back still got heavy yeast. Can't speak to a doctor until Monday, so a weekend of worrying. I know it isn't life threatening, but it is a real pain. Used a Boric Pessary last night and within 3 hours I was in pain. Hoping that is the die off as somebody mentioned last time. Another doctor said to stop using the estriol cream as this could have caused the thrush so am now only using the vagifem. I know vagifem can cause thrush too.  I am wondering if I haven't inserted the boric pessary high enough, not easy when they don't come with an applicator. Your replies are appreciated.

Sorry to hear you're suffering again. Not sure how big the boric pessaries are but could you use the Estriol cream applicator, that's quite big? Break one up and put the pieces in the applicator if it's too small.
It could be die off pain, hopefully.
Are you able to use Clotrimazole pessary with boric acid? Did you use these with some success last time, I can't remember. Have they diagnosed the strain this time, could it be the common one this time and fluconazole may do the trick? You can get both treatments on line from Amazon now really cbeap and usually next day delivery.

Thank you for responding Deirdre. The Boric Acid Pessaries are quite small and smooth rather like a capsule. It just melts inside when inserted. Clotrimazole didn't work last time. I am pretty certain the estriol cream has set it off this time. The Doctor did prescribe a Fluconazole tablet. The strain has not been diagnosed, but symptoms are exactly the same as last time. Hopefully last night was the die off period. Not been so bad today so pleased about that. Don't think I have been inserting the Boric high enough hence me still having thrush. Hopefully the Doctor will let me do another week to a fortnights Boric to really shift it. Hope you are okay.

The fact you're feeling a bit better is a good thing. Perhaps try inserting whilst squatting , that kind of lowers the uterus foward and the cervix,  better than lying down or standing. If the tablet melts I'd have thought it would spread everywhere and much better than the hard chalky pessaries that don't melt and go all crumbly. You can get a canesten soft gel pessary too now.

I'm same, can't use the pessaries, just burn like hell. I have to use the oral tablet.

Just spoken to a senior lady Doctor who suggested I try the Canisten Pessary and cream. I sent a message back to see if It would be more beneficial to carry on with the Boric Acid Pessaries. Anyway, to cut a long story short she has contacted the hospital where my swab went and they have agreed to culture it for a little longer to find out what strain of thrush I have and to find out the sensitivities. Hooray!! I might get the correct treatment. After 7 months on the incorrect treatment last year she agreed I don't want to go through that again. Such a relief to be getting somewhere. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all your support.

Thanks CLKD yes a Doctor that actually listened. I am not feeling too bad today. Sure inserting the Boric higher is helping. At least I feel I am now getting somewhere. Will keep you posted once the strain has been identified. Thank you for your concern.
