Choosing a private menopause specialist help please?
« on: November 05, 2024, 11:15:52 PM »

Hello
I am going to see my GP to request a blood test for testosterone for all the symptoms I am feeling for the last two years. I'd like E and P testing also. I take 25mcg E and 200mg P (off licence, approved by Gynae and reviewed this year by GP) as I bled.
I'd then like to go to a private clinic to avoid the long wait as I have felt pants for far too long, too pants to get ahead with my chores, exercise, socialise properly, etc etc.
I would like the NHS to test for E and P as well as T, which I can then take to a private clinic, as I can save on test costs, and I would hope if I need more hormones adding like T, the nhs may take on the prescription.
I'm struggling to find a private clinic, one poster on here said she tried 5 different clinics, I have the money to spend on one clinic. I thought Newson, but I hear varied reports as there's so many staff. I hear good and bad things about various clinics and what should have been a couple of hours research, has turned into a few days.
The one nearest me is cheaper, but I want a doctor who will understand my history as it's a bit complex (for another post) and not put barriers in my way, like some private healthcare practitioners seem to have with the experiences of patients online.
Thank you.

Saw GP re testosterone today - Some questions please?

Update.
I went to my GP today and told them I'd lost my sex drive and was advised low libido is the only reason testosterone is licenced for females in menopause.
It's by far, not the only symptom.
My GP wanted me to increase my E which I will under her supervision and has ordered a blood test for T, and will prescribe, depending on the results which she said I can get the figures for.
It can be prescribed by her at the surgery, thankfully.
I heard the NHS class low testosterone as a figure much lower than private healthcare, and if that is the case they will not be able to prescribe, but I can go private at this stage or even send the result to Superdrug online doctor.
It'd be nice if the NHS could prescribe it, a bonus, which I would be very grateful for.
Does anyone know what level testosterone Superdrug online doctor class as low?

Good news that your GP will prescribe on NHS.

Good news that your GP will prescribe on NHS.
I was pleased, I just hope my bloods are low enough for them to prescribe, as I understand private doctors use a larger amount of blood testosterone level than nhs, to class it as low.
