HRT giving me hot flushes for first time. Help!
« on: October 15, 2024, 09:41:48 PM »

I started HRT a few months ago. I’ve got the coil in and I started on one pump of gel. It did help a little but no where near enough. After two months I went up to two pumps of gel.

This was five weeks ago and I’m feeling hellish. I had a few mostly good days last week and thought I’d turned a corner but have been feeling rubbish the last few days. Really bad brain fog (this is a usual peri symptom for me), bad anxiety (haven’t experienced this much in peri) and the last couple of days I’ve started experiencing something similar to hot flushes, which I’ve never had before. My face has been getting really flushed and my whole body is roasting. After I’ve cooled, I’ll put a thin cardigan on and then become roasting again. And the cycle continues for ages. I’ve also had pretty bad nausea tonight.

I thought hot flushes were the first symptom to go after starting HRT so I’m confused as to why I’ve started it. Is it the oestrogen settling or is it a sign that the dose is too high for me? Not sure whether to persevere or not and if so, for how long to continue. Does anyone have any ideas? It’s such a minefield and I just feel so lost as to what to do.

For background, I’m 39. Still getting periods but over the last few years my cycles have shortened. My main symptoms were fatigue, dizziness, brain fog, low energy. I’m also on testosterone.
