Perimenopause and chronic illness
« on: October 12, 2024, 07:19:52 PM »

New member here, waving hello to everyone 👋 As the title suggests, I'm perimenopausal and I have chronic health conditions (diabetes and a gut disorder) and I've been struggling with ... Well, everything really. I'm a carer for 2 family members and not working so I'm stuck on Universal Credit.
I can't take HRT because of a history of blood clots so my GP has just prescribed Prozac, I only started taking it a couple of days ago so it's going to take a while to kick in, fingers crossed it will help the low mood and insomnia 🤞
Sorry my first post has been a bit rambly, but I hope I can find some new friends on here.

U ramble away.   :welcomemm: and 2 the World of Confusion.

Who has suggested that you can't take HRT?  Hopefully some1 with knowledge will be along.  MayB ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic, there are waiting lists, when the appt arrives if you don't need it when it arrives.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  What support do you get for your caring responsibilities?  R U entitled to carers' allowance?  There mayB allowances that you may be able to access, AgeUK have lots of leaflets about various issues in their charity shops.

Are U on insulin or do you manage your diabetes with a diet?  MayB it's time to overall your diet, perhaps make a note of what you eat/drink for 3-5 days/nights.  Since cutting out ultra processed foods I've felt a lot better.  Whereas I could eat do-nuts, croissants etc. until recent years  ::) now my guts rebel.   :o

Welcome. Plenty if info depending on what you want/need. Some days will be good, some will be hard. Remember to share the good days with us so you can have a memory to look back on when the rubbish days come again.
