Confused!
« on: October 12, 2024, 11:13:25 AM »

Hi all,

New here! 48 and have what I think are peri menopause symptoms, bad joint pain, red face flushing, hot then cold, flu like symptoms randomly of a night, tinnitus so thought I'd give her a go! I have been prescribed oestrogel 2 pumps daily and utrogestan days 1-25, 1 tablet daily. I have very regular normal periods so was thinking I'd be prescribed Utrogestan  2 tablets every day on days 15 to 26, after looking into hrt. Can anyone advise please the best option for me with regular periods the utrogestan dosage? Thanks 😁

Morning.  :welcomemm:  R U in the UK? Join the Often Confused Club  ;)  ::)

Hopefully some1 will be along with advice.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary useful to chart progress.  Do read the 'bladder issues' thread and those relating to vaginal atrophy ;-).  4warned is 4armed ;-)

Ask away.  We talk about everything on here - even menopause.

I would have expected the normal sequi regime too. The 25/28 regime is more useful in late peri when periods are erratic and infrequent as it allows a bleed if there's been a build up. It can also be useful earlier if utro helps you sleep.

Not an expert and would always recommend speaking to your menopause specialist/prescriber but I'm 45 and had regular period, albeit lighter and shorter and was started on 2 pumps oestrogel ams 2 utrogestan on day 14 for 14days.
When is your review? Is this helping with any of your symptoms?

Thanks all!

Just after looking into it, it does state if you still have regular periods, which I do, take the utrogestan 2 capsules (200mg) taken once a day, on days 15 to 26 of your 28-day HRT cycle but my GP has prescribed 1 capsule (100mg) days 1 to 25. I've started oestrogel and I'm going to take the 2 capsules days 15 -26 as the NHS website suggests as I have regular periods. So confusing! I'm concerned I've read a few people got terrible anxiety on the utrogestan days so I did wonder if taking daily for 25 days would help that? I've started now so I'll stick with the days 15-25! Fingers crossed! Thanks all.

The utrogestan is to protect the lining of your womb from becoming too thickened over time with the estrogen.

As long as you take enough over a given time period, it really, really doesn't matter if you take 2 capsules for 2 weeks out of 4, or one daily, with or without a 3 day break.

It will do the same job. The only thing that might be different is your bleed pattern. It is therefore down to personal preference as long as roughly the same quantity gets taken overall.

Thanks you! That actually makes so much sense to think of it that way!
