High Testosterone level -bloods reliable?
« on: October 08, 2024, 11:21:03 AM »

So I’m on progesterone tablet 100mg & 2 pumps oestrogen per day.
Added testosterone (as level was low after blood test) on a 3 month trial. 10mg gel pump alternative days.
Felt great.
But blood test now shows 6.9.
GP said to stop as should be no more than 1.8.
Gutted.
Are these blood tests reliable?

I don't think they're completely reliable as they're designed for men so we are at the very bottom of the scale. Assuming there was no possibility of contamination it's a long way outside permitted levels so gp is right to be concerned. You might find it easier to take a reduced dose with testogel.

When did you test?

The advice when testing testosterone levels on treatment is to take the blood test first thing in the morning BEFORE taking that day's dose.

Otherwise it could be artificially elevated due to the initial spike after absorption through the skin. This is not representative of your typical level over 24 hours.

Thanks for your reply. I did ask if I could try a reduced dose. But the GP decided she wanted to consult with the gyny dept. I was on Tostran 10 mg every other day. My blood test was in the afternoon on a day where I had applied the gel the evening before. I am baffled as to why it is so far out of range.
