New member with perimenopause

Hi all
Thanks for letting me join.
My background:
I am 50 and started perimenopause 3 months ago. My main symptoms were night sweats, hot flushes, headaches, aches & pains and needing to wee all the time. Also i hadn't had a period for 3 months. I initially went to the gp thinking i may be diabetic!
She started me on gepretix tablets 1st - 12th of the month and oestrogen gel 1/2 a pump a day. I gradually increased to 2 pumps. It only took 2 weeks for all of my symptoms to disappear. I was shocked how quickly it worked. I also got a period, quite a bad one though.
I went back for my 3 month review and said i would like to switch to patches, mainly for the convenience. She prescribed evorel sequi.
The first 2 weeks i used the oestrogen patch. All was great. Then last week i put my first progesterone patch on. The next day i felt so ill, like i had a virus. Horrendous headache day & night, nausea, aching all over.
Didn't really think it was the patch until i put my 2nd one on 3 days later and felt even worse. I realised that was what was making me feel so awful. I took it off and by the next morning felt normal again. Luckily i still have some tablets and gel left so have been using that again in the meantime.
I have arranged an appointment at the drs to have another review and i think i will have to stay on the gepretix as they have no side effects but i’m going to ask for an oestrogen patch instead of the gel.
Has anyone else had such bad side effects from the progesterone?
Also, what oestrogen patch brand would you all recommend?
Thanks  :)

:welcomemm:  Browse round.   Make notes. Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

If U need to wee 'all the time' then do ask for a urine sample 2 B sent to a Lab to make sure that there isn't a 'bug', if not discuss vaginal atrophy with the GP - appropriate treatment can certainly ease the need2P symptoms.

We discuss every thing on here.  Do read the vaginal atrophy and 'bladder issues' threads. Ask away.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The hrt stopped the weeing problem. It was back to normal after 2 weeks. My gp said that perimenopause can cause bladder issues in some. They checked my urine and i had no infections etc. I will have a look at all the threads this evening.

As you get on with the evorel patch you can use the oestrogen only patch with sequi utrogestan. Some people do have a bad reaction to the conti patches. There's no recommended patch as we all react differently, you just have to try them and see which suits you.

Thanks.
I think it may be a good idea to have the evorel oestrogen patches as i know i don't have any side effects with them. I’ll see what my gp says.
