what might I need hrt wise to resolve this?
« on: October 04, 2024, 11:13:37 AM »

Hi all

I'm going through the same very vicious cycle every 'month.'  I'm on evorel sequi.

When I get to the final Estradiol only patch I'm usually feeling well, have some energy, and start getting things done that I've not been able to up until that point.

This lasts 2 days if I'm lucky, one if I'm not.  If someone interupts that day, that's it for another month with trying to catch up on anything.

The minute I go onto the combined patch, norehisterone and estradiol, I am tired.

At first it's ok, it's just like a really relaxed feeling that you might get after a hard week of work and waking up on a day off.  But by the second week of the combined patch I am suffering, I am dragging my heels on everything, cancelling things, unable to do very much at all, it wipes out my energy.

As soon as I'm back on the estradiol patch I know things will look up, but it takes another week before I start to feel normal.  Also I have prolapse symptoms during the combined patch towards the end of it and they start to 'recover' on the estradiol.

In other words no sooner am I making progress with my health, then it's time to go back on the combined again and it undoes any good that was occurring.

I'm not sure increasing the oestrogen is a good idea (though the doctor did once say I could trial it but to let them know if I was doing that, I did trial it but was getting awful postural hypotension and feeling very weird, so more oestrogen isn't always the answer.  Sometimes I wonder if my body just needs a longer period on estradiol before the switch, but it would have to be closely monitored and wouldn't match a normal cycle if that were the case)

I'd be interested in what others think might be going on here.

First day of the combined patch again today, you can be sure I'll be on here typing gobbledegook soon and saying how tired and miserable I am  ;D

If you're good on the oestrogen only parches I would stick to that and look at replacing the progesterone with something you can tolerate a bit better. Utrogestan is perhaps the obvious one but there are other options.

I agree with Sheila, there are plenty of other options if norethisterone doesn't suit you.

There's no need to put up with feeling rubbish 50% of the time.

Have you tried anything else already or is this your first HRT preparation?

Thanks Sheila99 and Bombsh3ll

it's strange because I used to feel really well on the combined patch and stayed with norehisterone because I felt better than when I attempted Utrogestan and immediately felt bloated and asthmatic.

I didn't give it much of a chance though.

I suppose it's time to get those blood tests.  I was just wondering if my estradiol needed to be a bit higher in order for the norehisterone not to cancel it out as much.  I know that would be unlicenced use of patches and I would do it with doctor's advice, but just wondered if that might be what's going on, seeing as it used to be ok.
