Hello,

This is my first time on this forum. I m feeling pretty anxious as I ve been referred for a transvaginal ultrasound via the two week wait for bleeding. I changed from sequential HRT to continuous just over two months ago so I guess that could be it? I had breast tenderness a month ago although that has now gone and have had period like pain with bleeding for the last few days.   I haven’t had a period for 16 months. My husband has had cancer so we’re very anxious in case it’s happening again.
Any thoughts would be very welcome. Is it normal to be put on two week referral if you’re on HRT?

Yep.  Though U may find that it's more like 3-4 weeks due to weekends as well as shortage of staff.

Any untoward bleeding should be investigated to check the measurement of the womb lining.  It's 'routine' and will be worrisome.  A nuisance too if you get a bleed after months without.

I think that with some regimes bleeding is to be expected until the body becomes used to the replacement.  Hopefully some1 will be along with proper advice !  You will see that another topic is taking up time this evening, following a Panoram programme  .

What support R U both getting with regards your husband's diagnosis?

In the mean time keeping a mood/food/symptom diary may be of use.

Thank you for replying. I have my scan on Wednesday, less than a week after being referred and am booked in at a One Stop gynaecology clinic in my local hospital so very good service. Not long to wait I know.
My husband has regular ct scans just over a year after finishing treatment and so far is doing well.

Hi when changing to a continuous hrt it can take six months for bleeding to settle, so not sure why your doctor is sending you for a scan. let us know how you get on.

That’s part of my worry I think. It wasn’t my own GP. 111 had referred me to a GP section of my local Urgent Care department when I couldn’t get an appointment at my drs or with HRT nurse. The GP (who was lovely) did an internal. There was quite a lot of bleeding at that point and the exam made it worse I think. My abdomen was quite tender when she pressed too but that s not unusual for me as I have Crohn’s disease. I m concerned she found something worrying.

Most unscheduled bleeding in PM women who are on HRT is not sinister in nature. Some GP's are more clued up with the guidelines about when to investigate than others so maybe your dr was being unduly cautious.

As someone who has had frequent episodes of bleeding whilst on HRT and follow up investigations showing no concerns please try not to worry.

Hello,

So I had a TV scan on Wednesday. The consultant was v reassuring but took a biopsy of lining to outrule anything horrible as I think my uterus lining was 10mm. She felt the bleeding was due to change in HRT. She said assuming the biopsy is fine I will have a hysteroscopy to check for polyps. This appointment came through yesterday for December.
The bleeding had stopped just about but the biopsy seems to have started it up again. Initially it was just spotting but yesterday and today it’s like a period and I have pain/discomfort low down. Also feeling weak and just off. I even went to A and E this morning in case of infection. I ve been reassured I haven’t got an infection and given Tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. Has anyone else had this reaction after having a biopsy of uterus? The consultant couldn’t get many cells off of the lining which she said was a good thing. I m assuming she might have scraped a bit harder because of this.
I m just confused as to why I m feeling rubbish. Maybe my HRT is wrong.
Any help would be appreciated. Also I haven’t started the Tranexamic acid yet, a bit wary of more side effects.

Hey there! Totally understand your anxiety; it’s a tough situation. Switching from sequential to continuous HRT can definitely cause some changes, and it’s not uncommon to have some bleeding after that. The two-week referral is standard when there are concerns, but it doesn’t always mean something serious. Just hang in there and try to keep your mind occupied while you wait.

Thanks for replying. Did you get cramping as well? And can I ask how long it went on for?
