Blurred vision with Estrogen Increase.
« on: September 26, 2024, 07:07:47 PM »

Has anyone experienced this symptom when raising their estrogen levels. I seem to get blurred vision for a few weeks and then it settles down. The same thing happens when I lower estrogen. Again it takes a few weeks to settle.
I understand that estrogen effects the accommodation of the eye and so I’ve have just accepted this as a normal symptom
And nothing to be concerned about.

Any thoughts ?

It may be that there isn't any1 with this experience so they don't feel able to respond - and no, you haven't been blocked .  There has been a response to your other thread.

Hi Joesmum,
I had blurred vision and dizziness when I first started oestrogen gel. It took about a month for this to go so hopefully it's just a temporary side effect and nothing to worry about.

Hi

Have you had an eye health check recently? Might be worth having one just to make sure nothing else going on (sounds very much as if it is estrogen related)

When I had issues with my eyes a couple of years ago - flashing lights rather than blurred vision at the time - my optician carried out an eye health check rather than a vision test. In my area (coventry/warwickshire) this was free on NHS but not sure if it is in all health authorities.

I think the reason you didn't have replies to this post is that it's very specific and quite rare. No point in 100 people like me saying No  :).

Do your eyes feel dry at all?

Hormonal changes during menopause can cause dry eyes.  Dry eyes can cause blurred vision.

I have been suffering with severe dry eye syndrome in recent years and I know my vision suffers when my eyes feel dry.

Yes I have fantastically dry eyes. I now use eye drops and it has helped a lot although it comes back if I stop using them. I’m very, very sensitive to Estrogen dose adjustments and so have to make the changes very slowly or they can trigger very odd psychological symptoms too. I’ve always been like this and when younger even found it difficult to take the contraceptive pill.
