Estring possible side effects
«

Hi everybody. I have been suffering from VA for 5 years and have tried ovestin and blissel neither of which helped sufficiently. There were also side effects with both of them especially when I started using them. I also tried vagirux briefly which caused irritation in the area. I have now been using the estring for 2 weeks and have digestive issues and a headache. Both of these have been a problem for some time and I don't know if the medication is to blame. However, both seem to have got worse recently. One of the reasons for using the estring is that I was told that it should be less likely to cause problems as it doesn't contain the fillers which can be an issue. However, I'm wondering if my body is reacting to the continual supply of oestrogen? Does anybody have any information on this please?

There is another lady here that is having so many issues because she also can't tolerate oestrogen and is trying to find a solution, might be worth following her posts. Its an awful situation to be in when the treatment is there but you can't benefit from it.

I don't think your Estring is capable of causing digestive problems, although, you did not say what they are. If it's constipation, try to push it up, change it's position as it's possible that it presses on back passage, obstructs it a little, although it's pretty soft it is a foreign object in your body, so... Also, do regular pelvic floor exercises that will help your bowels too!
Best!

If you were having these problems before you started the estring it is unlikely to be the cause.
Also there is virtually no systemic absorption of vaginal estrogen, so it would not be expected to cause these side effects unless an individual had an unusual level of sensitivity.
I would treat those symptoms separately and persevere with the ring rather than losing a potentially valuable treatment, particularly as you have already exhausted other vaginal estrogens.

Posted on another thread but didn't get an answer.
bombsh3ll -- Just wondering......Do you have a background in medicine?
Are you a doctor/nurse/medical researcher?

Thank you for your replies. To clarify I felt nauseous and I had headaches when I first started ovestin. This settled but some time after acid reflux became an issue and has remained so. It has been much worse recently and I have a headache a lot of the time. I don't know if this is related to the medication but as they all contain oestrogen I wonder if it's possible that it is.

Thank you for your support Ayesha. Unfortunately I do seem to be quite sensitive to medications etc and my doctor has already acknowledged that previous treatments may have caused the acid reflux.
