Light bleeding / spotting for nearly 3 weeks
« on: September 24, 2024, 10:19:45 AM »

Morning ladies

I’d love some advise please. I’m 55 and still in Peri.

I posted a week or so ago about not having a period for around 3 months (97 days). Then on the 98th day I had pinky brown spotting, then a few hours of a bright red but very light bleed and then back to a brown ish colour spotting and then it stopped. 3 days with nothing and it started all up again with the spotting / bright red bleeding but very light and I still have it now, 18 days later.

I had an appointment booked with my GP last Wednesday and she’s usually very good and is quite knowledgeable.

When I mentioned what was happening she said it was because I’ve not ovulated obviously for those 97 days and now what has built up is coming out at random times and I should really start on HRT as this would help to regulate it and the progesterone side of it would then give a regular bleed.

Some of you ladies on here have said that if the bleeding is my only issue, then not to bother with the HRT.

My symptoms are at the moment, the bleeding randomly, anxiety, joint pain and not sleeping that good. All of which I’m dealing with quite well without the HRT at the moment apart from the bleeding side of it

My GP said that’s all she can suggest is start HRT or stay as I am, but that I could be like this for a long time.

She said because we don’t know where I am in my cycle and I’ve already missed 3 months that I should just start it anytime and then go back after 8 weeks to see her and talk about how it’s going.

I was offered a coil sometime back but I don’t do well with my own progesterone so I declined that.

Does it all sound ok, that you can have this random spotting and bleeding and just start HRT without really being checked out? Not that I want a referral to gynaecology, but was just wondering if this is how this all works?

I don’t really know much about the HRT side of things as I’d prefer if I could to be as natural as possible. It’s just this random bleeding and spotting sometimes has me wondering if all is ok in there

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi.  Your symptoms may well be due to not having enough hormone to push a full period into action.  At the end of each period I missed a day then had brown spotting for 24 hours, it was 'normal' 4 me so I never worried.

Hopefully some1 will be along with sensible advice  ::)

Thank you so much for replying to me. I was thinking the same thing, so you may be right.

At the moment it’s a light pinky almost not there colour. I dare hardly hope that it’s actually going off this time. I dare hardly move around in case I start it off again. Silly I know

CLKD , just wanted to say thanks again for the reply. You’re the only one that has answered me so I guess I’ll try elsewhere for advice 🥰

Theres a group on Facebook that you get lots of replies to your messages every time, so I’ll go on there.

I find on here that lots read the posts but it’s only the same few that reply.

Thanks again 🥰❤️

Hi what you are describing sounds very much like symptoms of peri menopause. It seems that the age of menopause is getting later and later. There’s an article about that somewhere.

Starting hrt should help with your symptoms and a Sequi hrt should help to regulate the bleeding.
