Brown staining
« on: September 15, 2024, 06:29:16 PM »

Just wondered if anyone can advise. I’ve been on HRT for many years. Sandrena gel and Ultrogesten.  I have had six months of severe stress followed by a steroid injection in my knee which I reacted badly to. High blood pressure. High pulse rate and flushing and now suddenly out of the blue some brown staining and general soreness in the vagina. Could this be another side effect of the steroid? I’ve had polyps before. It’s a bit worrying.

Unlikely to be related in any way to the steroid injection - when U say that U reacted badly to, what happened?

I suspect vaginal atrophy - as oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; skin, deep in the ears, nostrils, scalp, vagina ....... as well as muscles becoming lax = aches and pains.

Get yourself some appropriate VA treatment from your Nurse Practitioner.  'vagifem' is a pessary inserted into the vagina every night for 2-3 weeks; 'ovestin'/estriol the same, every night for 3 weeks.  The first can be inserted and the latter smeared around the vulval area to keep everything soft and supple.

Some use 'sylc' or 'yes' products .......... I find that estriol plus KY jelly or estriol on the outer areas works for me.  If I get the need2P symptoms I swallow 2 Nurofen to ease the nip as the urine flow shuts off.

Let us know how you get on.

Hopefully that’s it. The steroid did have an impact on me. My blood pressure went up for days and my pulse rate. My face flushed for days and I felt generally unwell. I heard some people had their hormones affected so I wondered especially as it has come around the same time and while I’ve been under constant stress. Trying not to worry about it too much. Thanks for responding. It helps.

Anxiety can cause those symptoms as injections aren't the easier treatment to deal with sometimes.

Are you sure you are on a high enough dose of estrogen? Just because high blood pressure and a fast heart rate and flushing can be symptoms of too low estrogen. They were for me... Vaginal soreness, again - low estrogen. What dosage of Sandrena are you on and are you sure you are absorbing it and that it's at a therapeutic dose? What is your serum estradiol level?
