Perimenopause Symptom?
« on: September 13, 2024, 03:34:11 PM »

Hi to all, I'm not sure if I'm in the right area to be posting this but I thought I'd ask this question.

To start I'm 48 years old and for the past couple of years when my period starts I will have two to three days of really dark brown blood loss, it's enough that I have to wear a pad but it never stains the pad, then the flood gates usually open but I've noticed that instead of my period being red blood all the time until it stops it keeps switching from red to brown, red to brown and then back to brown and then stops.  I think about mid-June I had a week of consistent light brown blood loss and then it stopped and no period until August.  I've also noticed that if I do have consistent blood loss it only lasts for two days (I've been a 4 to 5 day bleeder, usually with the first two days being the expected horrible days and then tailing off).  Are these symptoms of perimenopause.  Also I have noticed that at certain times of the month my left boob will really itch around the nipple and my left under arm will usually pong of BO and then once my period starts the itching and smell stop.  I have asked my mum about her perimenopause but as she's nearly 70 and she stopped having periods at 51 she can't really remember apart from when she used to flood through her clothing.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm finding all this a bit confusing.

My periods waxed and waned for years B4 stopping.

:welcomemm:  during my menstruating years I would bleed heavily with excruciating pains, then stop for 2 days B4 dark brown staining.  Normal for me.  Probably due to not enough hormone to push out the final drops of 'waste'.

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; scalp, skin, vagina, between the toes, deep in the ears ..........  ::) as well as muscles may become lax = aches and pains.

Join the Confused Club.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use so we become aware of what is normal.

When I get itchy nipples I apply 'vaseline' hand cream from the yellow bottle or nivea.

Years ago I began a thread 'oh errrr' because I could smell me although DH didn't notice any difference nor did people move away in shops  ;D

Browse round. Make notes.  Ask away.

Brown blood just means it has oxidised, meaning it is older and has been exposed to air more on the way down - it is a slower bleed.

Yes, all these changes are pretty typical for peri-menopause.
