Vaginal cream reaction
« on: September 08, 2024, 07:31:26 AM »

Hi everyone

Looking for some help. I am many yours post menopausal at 61 . Have used vagifem for years along with femiston conti . Had lots of bleeding like a cycle every 3 weeks but scans show clear. I have adenomyosis and interstitial cystitis. In April saw a gynae who added Ovestin cream and after using it for two days stopped as too much burning and bladder pain so changed to blissel. I have just done a vagifem reload.Last week I saw  a pelvic physio who diagnosed a stage two bladder prolapse. She recommended retrying the Ovestin cream for atrophy as it’s quite bad and mixing it with Yes VM. I’m 2 days in and it’s burning and causing pain in my bladder. Do I persevere and hope it gets better or give it up? I just can’t decide.

I wouldn't continue with a treatment that is causing stinging and burning. This suggests you are sensitive to one or more of the ingredients.

There are other options - there's a weaker estriol cream which is 0.01% instead of 0.1%. however it is likely one of the carrier ingredients that is affecting you rather than the estriol itself.

There's also vagifem which can be used daily if needed on an ongoing basis, prasterone and ospemiphene oral tablets, although I am not sure the latter two are easily available on the NHS.

Also most VA in women on systemic HRT results from very subtherapeutic doses being used, which don't provide meaningful plasma levels of estrogen so it is worth reviewing this too.

Awful when that area reacts to a product that should help.  I use KY Jelly to keep the area moist as well as 'ovestin'/estriol a few times a week.

If the vaginal walls are thin and sore, anything up there will sting!

YES VM doesn't suit everyone, I can't tolerate it. Estriol does sting sometimes and I apply Bepanthen baby ointment as well, this stops the stinging for me.

Yes VM makes my soreness worse. It could be that that isn’t suiting you .

The good news is it’s improving on its own having stopped Yes VM. Now to solving my bleeding which has been happening for years reduced my HRT to see if stopping might help
