Not to vagifem as used it for a long time but had horrible reaction to Ovestin cream which I am trying again for the second time. It’s very depressing when you want your body to play ball isn’t it.

That is a frightening and painful experience, I hope you are feeling better?

I had a problem using
vagifem, but not the pains you have gone through, but it did cause a severe reaction to my vulva, the discharge from the pessary irritated me down, I stopped using it straight away,  I've read here some women are allergic to the fillers in vagifem (its not the estrogen itself).

You have had an awful reaction by the sounds of it no wonder you've lost faith in your body, other than your GP telling you to come off the vagifem, did they give you an
alternative estrogen replacement treatment for you?

Hello Tanta53 and welcome to the forum.

I wonder if you accidentally introduced some foreign bacteria when you used Vagifem? Our anatomy means that bugs can easily migrate along our perineam and end up where they shouldn't be. Or perhaps you had an infection that your body was dealing with but the tablet moved it further into your body?

I don't use topical oestrogen so I have no  personal experience but perhaps this reaction was a one off and you will be fine with topical oestrogen in the future.

Wishing you well and take care.

Sorry you had such a horrible experience.

Just because a particular drug reaction is uncommon doesn't mean it should be invalidated.

Be kind to yourself while you recover.

If and when you feel ready, know that there are multiple other options to treat your symptoms.

If you do decide to use another treatment, I would start with the lowest dose and then quarter that.

If you plan to use a cream, maybe put a tiny dot somewhere less delicate first such as on your arm.

It may be a reaction to the fillers rather than the active ingredient, also with 'vagifem' being a pessary, perhaps try 'estriol/\ovestin'. This is administer by applicator but can be put onto the finger and pushed in gently.   It may be sore initially especially if the vaginal walls are dry and thin.  I have found KY Jelly helps, it's stickier and easy enough to insert as far as is comfy.

Occionasly ladies report headaches when starting localised VA treatment, personally it's not been that way although if I have a break then require a reload, I get the 'need2P' more often for the next day.

Let us know how you get on.
