No period for 9 weeks
« on: September 07, 2024, 10:57:56 AM »

Morning everyone 😃

I’ve not had a period for 9 weeks. It’s the first time I’ve gone this long without. I’ve woken this morning to very light pinky brown spotting, like the start of a period. I’m 55 and was hoping this would all have been over and done with by now🙄.

Am I right in thinking I could be in for a heavy one or a long one as it’s been 9 weeks since the last one. Or maybe it won’t come to much?? Who knows.  Will have to wait and see.

Any others of my age at this stage too??

Lots of love xx

My money would be on a lighter bleed because at 55 you are unlikely to be producing enough estrogen to thicken up the endometrium which is what gives rise to heavier bleeding.

No way to know for sure though.

From a long term health perspective it's good to have a later menopause.

Reading about women at the later end still having periods gives me something to think about in terms of what age I plan to switch from menstrual suppression to hormone therapy so thanks for sharing this as it's easy to get the impression most women are done by 51 or 52.

It really is different for everyone. I recall my mum saying her last period was very heavy and full of clots. That was it. For me, my periods started stopping for 3 or 4 months at a time. Some were a little clotty, others just normal, though shorter in length than typical, for me. My last 2 were very light, but dragged on to about 12 days, then nothing. They ended at 49.

Thank you both for your replies. It’s good to hear others experiences even though everyone is different, there’s usually some similarities in there somewhere too.

Late menopause is still something you hear very little about. My grandmother was near to 60 before she was done. Not sure about my own mother. It was something she would never talk about, so could be in the family for me. It is true still that we are all lead to believe it should all be over by 51/52 and it’s just not the case.

I shall see what happens this time I guess. Ip until recently I’ve had pretty regular periods, but they have been lighter than I used to get. Things seem to have moved on for me now, as I’ve now gone sometime without a period this time, so I’m getting there albeit slowly. Up to this point I’ve only missed a month here and there

An update:

I woke up this morning to bright red but a very light bleed. Only lasted the morning and then back to pinky brown spotting again by lunchtime 🫤

I’m assuming there’s not a lot in there to come out even after missing 3 months. It does set my anxiety off and I’ve been thinking all sorts of things🙄.

Can’t wait for it all to be over and done with

Hello Hannahlou

Up until I was 54 I had regular periods every month, no change at all. Then I missed one and had no bleeding for six months, I then had what I thought  was the start of a period but it didn't develop and that was it, nothing since and I became officially post meno at age 55.

Your spotting this morning may be another period or it may fizzle out, only time will tell but there is no need to worry.  It all appears to be well within the normal range of experiences at this time in our lives!

Wishing you well and take care.

I am 47 and i have been without for about 139 days now according to my app. Prior to that they were pretty regular until last summer when it disappeared and came back.

It was lighter each time, almost did not think i was having one.

Unsure if it will return at this point but you never know

97 days is the longest I’ve gone this time. It’s the not knowing if all is ok or not because a period sometimes doesn’t even resemble a period anymore🫤.  I get very anxious whenever I have one these days. My mind goes into overdrive and I start thinking all sorts of things are wrong with me.

Prior to this time I’ve only missed the odd month a couple of times in the last 2 years.

It’s the uncertainty of it all. When and if they will rerun and what will they be like and is all well or not.

It’s draining sometimes all this

Thank you so much for your reassurance Kathleen.

I think I worry a little more because I’m 55 and still not done with all this. I try to tell myself that all is well but sometimes it just doesn’t work.

I’m still only spotting today (a dark reddish brown) so doesn’t look like it’s going to develop into a full blown period🫤. Or maybe it’s just a very light one that just resembles spotting, who knows.

Anyone else had a period that was just spotting and no actual’flow’ to it. Only need pantyliners
