Louise Newson and Progesterone side effects
« on: September 03, 2024, 08:47:11 PM »

Just been watching a video of her talking about the struggle to use Progesterone either bio identical or synthetic. I'm one of them, but I'm wondering if anyone has done the opposite of using less and administered more on a regular daily basis as she does briefly talk about? I have felt the benefits of P but the side effects constantly outweigh it. But, I have always thought is it the coming down from it is the reason I get these side effects? ie I need to have it on a constant supply so I don't have them, especially the anxiety. Anxiety was one of the first things I got when I was in full blown menopause. I wondered has anyone tried this constant loading of Progesterone??

It is unorthodox and counter-intuitive, and personally not something I'd do, however she is a very experienced clinician in this field and I have no reason not to believe this has worked in some of her patients, although I doubt it is very many.

If no other options are on the table for you such as IUS, dydrogesterone, desogestrel, slynd or tibolone, then it's probably worth a try.

The worst that could happen is it's awful and you don't carry on with it.

I would maybe start low and build up gradually to your intended dose rather than taking a huge dose right away, and like you said make sure you have a consistent supply to meet your needs.

Have you considered a mirena coil for your progesterone?
I was intolerant to utrogestan and in the end I opted for that. It’s a steady release of progesterone. It has worked for me, though I know it sometimes gets a bad press.

Anxiety is more likely to be oestrogen deficiency. Utrogestan is a sedative so perhaps it's masking it? Can you tell us a bit more about you've tried and what benefits and side effects you get?
