What HrT is best for surgical menopause?
« on: September 03, 2024, 04:14:56 PM »

Hey ladies, I’m 32, been in surgical menopause for 2 years.

Estrogen doesn’t agree with me very well and after trying patches, tablets, gels, Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone in various doses and routines, I’m now on 2 sprays Lenzetto a day only, (I know this is low dose) Estrogen is currently at 364 (which is what it was post surgery).

I’m generally getting through the day but still suffer fatigue, low mood, lack of motivation, no sex drive, achy and stiff.

Menopause doctor has prescribed tibolone but I’m to scared to try it with it being a synthetic steroid.

Someone has suggested that the Lenzetto probably isn’t giving a consistent dose and that I should re try Elleste Solo.

I’m so lost & confused. What has worked for you other surgical menopause ladies?

I’ve tried test gel alongside Lenzetto and it seemed to affect the Lenzetto and I had side affects.

No personal experience but I have seen several ladies do really well on tibolone after surgical menopause.

The fear of "synthetic" hormones and the social media evangelism around body identical hormones is greatly overblown in my opinion, unscientific given the absolutely marginal real world difference in outcomes, and leads to a lot of women struggling with ineffective and/or poorly tolerated therapies because they are scared to death of taking some of the older formulations, which have decades of safety data.

Tibolone has lower rates of breast cancer and doesn't increase the risk of blood clots at all.

What have you got to lose by trying it- if it doesn't suit you just switch back.

I'm on the combined pill which is also "synthetic" and tibolone may well be my first choice when I move onto menopause hormone therapy as I prefer oral treatment and like the idea of getting 3 in 1.

Bombsh3ll is spot on in my opinion. There is an evangelical movement to persuade women that body identical is always best which, in theory, is correct. But it can be very problematic trying to find a good enough fit to relieve symptoms and imbalances often lead to more suffering! I got worn out trying to find my balance with body identical and dealing with a health crisis at the same time so I’ve switched to tibolone until my body heals its way to back to health. I don’t think women shpuld be frightened away from synthetic alternatives when, for one reason or another, they can’t find a balance with body identical HRTs - I’ve heard many women say that they finally settled on a synthetic like tibolone after years of trying other HRTs.

As with anything, you won’t know about tibolone or any alternative til you try it. Just expect that, as with any change, your body might kick back which is natural. It may not do that but the point is to at least try and to be patient with initial side effexts (if they occur) until your body gets used to it. Let us know how you get on if you go for it. I aim to give tibolone at least 3 months before I decide what to do.
