Anxiety
« on: September 03, 2024, 10:53:14 AM »

Not sure what is happening but need some advice..briefly..
Am post menopause,no period for 16 months, haven't seen gp so on no meds
Symptoms... hot flushes at night have started in last few weeks
The real issue is anxiety. I feel worried all the time. Started with imagined health problems and constantly searching google.
Now daughter has a medical.issue which don't really know details but I am catastrophising it..been on Google for two days. Then last night burst into.tears and has happened couple of times today. heart pounding,on edge. Just a feeling of dread.

Is this something I should see my gp about and any ideas what would help?

Hi ovaries may continue pumping out hormone for years  ::)

How was your anxiety during your menstruating years?  It may B that HRT would help this, as would anti-anxiety medication.  STOP googling!  How old is your daughter and why are U using google, surely the medics can inform you about any treatment that might be required?

No previous problems with anxiety. Always a bit of a worrier but nothing over the top.

Know shouldn't Google....trying to stop.

Daughter is in fact 28! She did say whatbthe issue was but I keep thinking is she playing it down for me not to worry(family have no idea of my worries) and my imagination is running wild.

Even now getting teary for no reason.  Have never been like this before.

I agree with clkd,no googling, nearl every site would have us dead by the end of the week.
Anxiety was my worst symptom, woukd start getting really bad butterflies in my stomach and not know why, then it got worse, throw low mood into the mix and wow it was bad. I didn't take hrt but maybe now I wish I'd tried but I came out the other side,61 now, still have HA but I think a lot of people my age and older do.
Have you tried anything to help? I took CBD for a while,it took the edge off

So.  DD may be playing down her symptoms etc.  That is her decision to take, nowt to do with any1 else.  I stopped telling my parents about my health issues when I was in my 30s because quite honestly, they weren't really bothered.  Or I got negativity from my Mum!

Concentrate on your anxiety levels ......... do U feel that HRT would help for example or a short course of valium-type meds to help?

When you google you only ever get worst case scenario.  I never do it anymore.   It’s like looking at all the side effects of drugs, the side effects are worse than the problem

Hi Debsmenopause, you are not alone!
I am suffering terribly with anxiety at the moment. It really is the worst feeling. I'm not sure whether I'm still in Peri or menopause as I don't have periods due to an ablation in 2018, but at 51 now I'm sure if I'm not in menopause I'm pretty close!
I'm an ocd sufferer and if there's one piece of advice I can give it's don't google!! You're seeking reassurance for your worries, but the relief you get is only temporary and then you need more and each time the anxiety feels stronger and the need to reassure/check is more urgent. It's a vicious circle! Your mind will always throw up the "what if.." questions to any answers you find anyway, so there's no point. The best thing you can do is try to ignore the urge to search for answers and distract your mind as best you can. You'll find that by doing this you'll eventually start to think more clearly. You can't rationalise the irrational!
Definitely speak to your GP as there are options out there that can help. I'm not on HRT at the moment, but I'm looking into my options as I am also suffering terribly with hot flushes at night. I do, however take the anti-depressant Escitalopram, I have done for a number of years and previously it has always helped me to control my anxiety and not get stuck in obsessive thought patterns. So I'm going to stick with it, as I believe the anxiety I'm feeling at the moment has broken through due to the massive fluctuations in hormones.
You could also try working through an online CBT course. It will give lots of tips on how to challenge and reframe your thoughts.
Hopefully you will get some relief soon!

Thanks for the replies.. sound advice and I feel a bit relieved I am not alone! Was beginning to feel I was going a bit mad.
Definitely going to stay off Google and use some distraction methods.

I am.also going to contact GP in the morning for some.help.
