If you are easily grossed out im sorry. I have never had piles nor bleeding rectally or anything ever, no problems at all. No constipation or straining.
About 2 weeks ago I find a hard pea like lump just inside the anus while washing. No pain, no bleeding nothing else. Googled and it said small hemeroid....so I left it at that. It seems to have totally vanished.
Today I used the toilet and noticed blood, maybe the size of a 20p, very bright red and fresh. Im by now totally freaked out and beyond worried. I can also see a new lump on the outside, like a round smooth lump but it isnt cut at all so the blood didnt come from this.
Can menopause really cause me to have internal piles, which is what doctor google seems to suggest.
Im 50 and in good health, healthy eating, a stone heavier than before menopause but still not really overweight
It really scares me what menopause can do and cause. My teeth have been cracking and loosening too
Any help/views appreciated

I'm not yet menopausal but am no stranger to haemorrhoids. I got them for the first time after giving birth.

The lump at your anus and fresh red blood that's not mixed in with stool are classic for haemorrhoids.

However if you have not had this before it would be worth getting it checked out by your GP for peace of mind.

Regarding the teeth though, that is more concerning as loose teeth can be a harbinger of osteoporosis. I would suggest looking into getting a DEXA and think about hormone therapy to protect your bones long term if not on this already.

Thank you, yes I think I should get it checked. Iv never had health anxiety until now either.

I didnt think of osteoporosis, so thanks for that. I am a vegan and was told some time ago to up my calcium intake, which I did but maybe it was too little, too late

Get thyself to a dental practice ASAP.  As oestrogen levels drop the body can become dry: inside and out as well as muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Gums are known to recede = too loss.  Keep that jaw exercised by eating and chewing well.  As with the long bones, the jaw bone needs to be kept active.

Nothing is too graphic for MM! I'd also agree it sounds like hemorrhoids amd the bright red blood would support this. They go up and down in size too. Have you been constipated? Stress, dehydration amd constipation all cause my husband's to flare up.

The sad thing is people with loose teeth and tooth loss are not told by either their dentist or doctor about the association with osteoporosis.

My dad lost most of his teeth in the decade leading up to his first fragility fracture and now his spine has crumbled.

Nobody told us but once I learnt about this and researched it there are dozens of published studies on the association.

This doesn't mean you have or are going to get osteoporosis, there can be other reasons for dental problems but I am really keen to make as many people as possible aware, because that knowledge allows people to take preventive action at an earlier stage, which my dad didn't have the opportunity to do.

Do you know what causes men to get osteoporosis? Is it a different hormone?

Low testosterone has been implicated in men, both directly and because it converts to estrogen.

Also there is a genetic component - as both of my parents have osteoporosis I am super motivated to do everything in my power to avoid it!

However my dad's testosterone has never been tested and he had none of the traditional risk factors such as steroid use, undernutrition, lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol etc.

He was given a bisphosphonate after his first fracture which did zero to prevent the subsequent fractures.

Sounds tough for your dad, I've not really heard much about men getting osteoporosis until reading about it on here.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am and always have been obsessive about my teeth and dental hygiene. I first noticed 5 years ago, that I had crowns but my teeth were moving apart so I had strange gaps. Dentist did an xray and said my bones were losing density and my gums were receding in my mouth. This caused panic on my part but he didnt seem worried. I have since taken calcium strong dose, plus anything else I can do to help. Its a big problem, but in menopause I find 1 problem at a time although there always seem to be 5 on the go
