Mammograms
« on: August 25, 2024, 04:05:42 PM »

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to ask how long you all wait for
Mammogram results.  I was told results would be within 2 weeks. HA is through the roof, everyday watching for the postman but still no letter after 2 weeks.  I’ve now convinced myself that I’m going to get a letter as there is something wrong.
Thank you

My recent results were back in 2.5 weeks, when did U have your film taken? If it's late in the week it won't be Reported on until mid-the following week.  In some areas it's 3-4 weeks due to lack of Staff.

Hi CLKD,

I had it done on 11th August which was a Sunday which I was surprised about.

My mind is just running away with me at the moment.

What's the worst that could happen?  I went through diagnosis, treatment etc., still here ;-)

I can’t function when I’m so anxious about test results.

I’m hoping they would have contacted me by now if there was a problem.

I can't function when anxious, it floors me  :'(

We are in a Bank Holiday too.  If U haven't heard by Wed then ring the Dept. to C whether the results have been posted.

I was hoping they would be back before the long weekend.  I wish they wouldn’t say results within 2 weeks and then you don’t get them.🤬

The reasons that I gave above?

MayB the radiographers who take the films aren't aware of the time that it might take to get results out.

In general, if something flags up on screening / tests, you tend to hear sooner rather than later. My positive poo test resulted in  call two days after submitting it, whereas my husband's multiple negative ones took longer. I don't know about mammograms, but I'd say no news is good news, although I can totally get how your health anxiety could convince you otherwise. However you could ring your GP and see if they have heard anything as results would also be logged with your surgery.

Thank you Penguin.

I suffer so badly with HA and my head goes to worst outcome.  Hopefully no news is good news. I hope you’re ok now after your poo test.

Yeah I had a colonoscopy and it was polyps and they removed then. Surveillance colonoscopy the next year and all good. So I'm living proof that you can get call back for things and still be fine, as I've heard is the case with the majority of mammograms too. But I see and hear you, I have health ocd so go to worst case scenario in the brain too. Waiting for smear tests results was horrendous 😫

I’m glad everything was ok for you.

Waiting for results is very draining. I just can’t function at the moment with all this waiting.

Just a thought, I have the NHS app and I find my results get posted on there before I hear from the surgery.  If you have the App you could look on there x

I hope you’ve had your results by now I totally relate to your anxiety.  I called the screening unit in the end as I was going on holiday and was literally thinking of cancelling as couldn’t stand not knowing - the administrator said whilst she couldn’t tell me the result she could share that I would be recalled in 3 years so I knew all was ok.
