Menopause Matters magazine ISSUE 81 out now. (Autumn issue, September 2025)
These are well known side effects of progesterone although not everyone gets them. Pharmacologically this models PMS, so those who used to suffer mood symptoms premenstrually seem more susceptible. I can't see how switching from two 100mg capsules to one 200mg capsule will make a difference assuming you aren't changing the route of delivery eg from oral to vaginal or vice versa. It may be possible to take 100mg continuously instead rather than seesawing between none and 200mg. This may improve tolerability. Otherwise I would think about changing to a different progestogen such as the mirena IUS or an oral synthetic progestin. There's also the combined patch which may be suitable.
I've used both 2x100 and 1x200 vaginally. I can't tell any difference between them, as far as I'm concerned they're both the spawn of the devil .
