Testogel for women
« on: August 20, 2024, 01:06:52 PM »

Hi,

I'm perimenopausal and suffer from terrible brain fog. I'm on HRT but still issues continue (which could also be for other reasons).

I had a blood test a while back for a separate reason and found my testosterone levels were low. GP or menopause clinic won't prescribe testosterone but I want to try to see if it does anything for brain fog and no sex drive and fatigue.

The only places I can find that sell them online seem to require you to have a prescription appointment at about 20 pounds + only supply 3 sachets (1 months supply).

3 sachets at 18 pounds or so seems very expensive when men can purchase a pack of 30 for 55 pounds. I feel ripped off.

Does anyone know anywhere that you can purchase more than 3 sachets at a time if you pay for a prescription appointment on top?

Many thanks

It's usual for a menopause clinic to prescribe, a GP can't.  Go back and tell them that you lack sex drive and that your marriage is in tatters ....... ;-)

Many use it, hopefully some1 will be along with proper advice.

Thanks, but the menopause clinic dismissed it instantly. Plus, impossible to get hold of.

I'm not married nor am I in a relationship, which this situation isn't helping with.

It shouldn't make any difference, many medics still don't realise how important the 'male' hormone is to women.

MayB put 'testogel' into the search box and read the threads.   make notes ;-)

I'm actually asking if somebody knows whether you can get more than 3 sachets at a time privately...this is because I can't get it from my GP/menopause specialist (who I can barely accesss in any case).

I get my T from Newson Health. I get an entire year's worth at once and it costs about £125 for the year. I use a sachet every 8 days (Testogel).

An NHS meno clinic should be able to prescribe it, normally gps won't. Might be worth looking at superdrug, I think their doctor can prescribe it. They charge women far more than men there too. Don't know how it works out for price but tostran lasts 7/8 months.

Thanks everyone. Was finally able to speak to my menopause doctor and she said we could consider it if after checking and adjusting my estrogen levels, my symptoms have still not gone away.

>joziel, thanks that's good to know!

>sheila99, yes, I looked at Superdrugs, seems they charge 20 pounds or so for the consultation then only prescribe 3 sachets (1 month's worth) of testogel. I'm in the process of checking with them if they only prescribe 1 month at a time.

I thought Tostran was not good for women but not sure if I misread that somewhere.

Hi,

I was also going to mention Tostran. It comes in a pump that will last me a year. I prefer it to testogel as its very easy to dispense (as opposed to 1/4) of a sachet.

You may well find that you need to take less than the prescribed amount anyway. A lot of people judge the amount by eye as opposed to 'correct' dose.

Good luck

I get tostran on the NHS, prescribed by an NHS meno clinic. I much prefer it to testogel, 1 pump every other day instead of guessing how much 1/10th of a sachet is, by the time I got to day 10 it was either far too much or far too little.

Ah ok, I didn't know you can get tostran on the NHS.

Yes will let people know how I get on if I get it prescribed.

Tostran is more concentrated so less easy to get the right dose and greater margin for error. It is 2 %, so I would tend to be wary of this in the first instance. There used to be 1 % gel - Testogel and testim but both have been discontinued and now Testogel is only available as approx 1.6 % gel. I would always go for that. Re pump sizes and measuring 1/8th of a sachet etc. Nothing wrong with starting qith a "pea-sized blob" which is what Annie Evans told me ( now long since retired) - of 1 % gel. easy to judge on the end of a finger. With the more concentrated Testogel then a petit-pois szied blob would probably be the starting amount. After a few months it can always be increased if the desired effect is not attained.

I just keep on squeezing out the blobs until the sachet runs out and never worry how many days it's lasting (longer than recommended)!

Good luck with whatever you manage to get hold of Birdbrain
