Help me understand!
« on: August 13, 2024, 06:49:40 PM »

I just need some help and advice on what best to do. I'm 39. Since having my son 2.5 years ago I developed really bad pms or pmdd. Doctor gave me citalopram which has helped even my moods out as 2 weeks before periods I was absolutely horrendous. Fast forward to this las 8 months, moods are worse, emotional as hell, really bad sleep, itching is driving me insane, forgetful and stupid and quite frankly think I'm losing my mind, the last 6 months my periods have altered and this month I don't even know what it is. And the exhaustion or fatigue is crippling my partner doesn't indeestand why I sleep so much or are tired!  I have 4 kids work night shift and life's crazy so doctors say it's just my life but I know myself and it's more than that. I think I'm peri, my mum was my age for meno. Don't know if it's passed on but I'm losing the plot one honestly want to sign myself into somewhere right now by now I feel 😭 x

Join the Club !   :welcomemm:  U R not losing your mind!

Four children is a lot to deal with!  You have a toddler running around?  First learn to delegate to the others and OH.  Children as young as 3 can help around with small tasks.

As oestrogen levels drop off = perimenopause = all kinds of odd symptoms arrive, it's The Change.  Does what it says on the tin.

Some ladies find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress and cycles.  No age is too young for perimenopause and if your Mum was 'early' then it may be that you will be too.

It mayB that you need a full blood count to include thyroid function and VitD tests to make sure that you arn't low on VitD ; both conditions can cause tiredness etc..

Who looks after the children on the nights that you are at work?

Don't despair!

Morning.  Time to discuss your symptoms with a GP or Nurse Practitioner.  Don't be fobbed off with antidepressants if U feel that these are cyclical.  Keeping a diary can be useful to confirm to a medic how you have been feeling.

Let us know how you get on.

Don't overlook the combined pill (taken continuously without the withdrawal bleeds) as a treatment option.

No cycle - no cyclical symptoms!

Much better than antidepressants which do not work for hormone related issues.

It can be excellent for quality of life including in perimenopause.

I plan to take it until my early 50's.
