Itchy and crawling skin
« on: August 07, 2024, 01:30:40 PM »

Hi,
My skin always feels like I've walked into cobwebs or like bugs are crawling on me..
I have been told its a peri symptom..
Has anyone had experience with this?
 :)

Yep.  As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; skin, deep in the ears, nostrils.

Remind us: R U taking any HRT?  'cos meno-brain can't remember and I haven't the energy to scroll through ....

Yes, that’s a well known peri symptom.

Yes I get that, plus sometimes a feeling of random body parts burning, it's recently been my right upper arm, very annoying.

May I giggle  :D ............

I am constantly scratching my scalp idly .......... it was my insteps initially when I took off socks to get into the bath. OK all day, I would wake in the night with 1 ruff heel scratching the other  :o.  Deep in my ears and eyes have been problematic in recent months: drops overnight make my eyes gritty by morning  :-\

Be careful when you rub your nose ;-) or you'll B on a programme called 'bewitched'   ;D

I use 'vaseline' hand cream - yellow bottle - on my legs, belly etc and Nivea on my ears the bony bits seem to get dry very quickly.  As well as a good sun protection 🧴 in the day if walking etc..

it didn't last long 4 me so you may be lucky in that this is a 'phase' ....... I've been told 'it's a phase' since I was about 11  :D

Did U try 3 pumps all at once?  and you mean 'vagifem'?

Sorry, no I ment eastrogel..I tried 3 pumps for a month and a bit but I felt no extra benefit in the end as the main symptom is anxiety... although night sweats and fatigue are still an issue but citalopram can cause both of the symptoms also :)

Night sweats is the main one, its definitely worse since I started and increased citalopram... :)

I had to quit citalopram as I was unable to get higher than 10mg because of the sweats, mine were all day too. The psychiatrist I am now seeing says some side effects are initiation side effects, and some are dose dependent. Sweating is a dose dependent one unfortunately so crops up as you go higher. I switched to fluoxetine and am comfortably on 30mg and it's been fine. So maybe a different ssri would help if they become very bothersome.

Thanks  :)
Unfortunately I've tried fluoxetine and it didn't suit me so will soldier on as I've already tried several  other also. :)

Interesting how people react to different medications.
