Is it actually possible to get my emotions under control?
« on: August 04, 2024, 07:10:10 PM »

I've been feeling so much better since I got my HRT at the right level - anxiety gone, low mood gone, vaginal atrophy better.

In many ways I feel like my pre-peri self  (although some brain fog) but I can't seem to stop myself crying at the smallest things. I watch a generic crime drama and cry. A conversation with my partner gets the tiniest bit heated and I cry.

I'm supposed to be interviewing for senior roles and I'm terrified of getting the job and crying at the first sign of stress or conflict.

Is this normal or does it mean my hormones are still out of whack?

I'm 47, two years peri, take 2.5 pumps oestrogel, 100mcg Utrogestan nightly for 25 days a month (although it's generic brand name version) and Vagifem x4 a week.

What has happened in your past that mayB popping up now, triggered by hormonal upheaval.  I rarely cry although some programmes can make me tearful.

How badly do you want the new Role?

Hi Kai,

I'm a big crier. It became much more noticeable after having kids (ie hormones) got a but better fir a few years, then peri made me fragile so the regular tears returned.

Good luck with your interview. You go for it. I find at work I don't really cry as much as I'm in that zone. But even if you do, so what? Better than shouting.

What actually really helped me be a lot less bothered by stuff and take things less personally (ie less reasons to cry) was taking testosterone. I don't know if that's something that interests you, but it deffo boosted my confidence and helps me move on (rather than runinate)

Take care x

I don't know if you need help to stay calm for the interview itself but I found a very low dose (10mg) of propanalol which is a beta blocker excellent for that. Had my first interview in 10 years a couple of months ago and I was an emotional wreck beforehand. I got the job and they said they hadn't even noticed my nerves! I just find it makes me really physically calm which helps with the emotion side of things as I'm just less reactive.

@CLKD - I've been through a lot of stuff in the past few years, divorce, bereavement and most recently redundancy. But I had counselling and once the HRT was settled, I've not feel the impact of all those things so much.

I want the role a lot but it's broader than that really. I can't go through life crying every time there's a minor cross word with my partner. Just wished I knew why it was still happening.

@Banjo1973 and @Penguin thank you for your kind words. I calm down once the interview starts but I'm more worried about starting a job and crying on the job. I might look into beta blockers and testosterone although I'm reluctant to add something more the drug cocktail I already have on the go. ;D
