No period on continuous Utrogestan
« on: July 29, 2024, 02:08:23 PM »

Im 51 with regular periods. Ive tried cyclical Progesterone but I did not feel great on the days that I was taking Oestrogen alone.

I spoke to the practice nurse who said that I could take continuous Progesterone but be prepared for some irregular bleeding.

First two months I took it, periods arrive on time - no problem.

Third month, very scant period that carried on for about 10 days.

Fourth month, this month nothing so far at all! A little feeling of breast soreness but no period.

Is this normal on continuous Progesterone and more importantly is it ok?

Im on a 25mg Everol Patch.

Thanks

Hi Jessbob

If you were having regular periods when you started taking HRT, and then for a few months when you started taking continuous progesterone, then maybe you are now becoming peri-menopausal ie your natural cycle is becoming erratic, longer and you may not be ovulating each month. In addition you are taking a low dose oestrogen and continuous progesterone (presumably the licensed dose of 100 mg orally?) - which is good enough to protect most women at least up to medium oestrogen doses ( 50 mcg patch for example) sometimes more. Therefore this is likely the reason for no bleeding.

Usually it is abnormal bleeding rather than lack of bleeding which can be a cause for concern and maybe indicate the need for further investigation.

Hope this helps :)

You could take it 25/28 days. It can be useful in late peri as it allows a bleed if there's been a build up.

Thank you ladies, still no period today (4 days late) but im headachey and breasts are sore.

I think ill leave the P off a few days to try and induce a bleed, it feels like my body is trying to have one but it cant.

There's no medical reason why you have to have withdrawal bleeds.

25mcg of estradiol is such a low dose that you probably aren't building up any lining to shed.

I would just take it continuously and be glad to see the back of old aunt Flo!
