Anxiety or something else?
« on: July 19, 2024, 11:35:18 AM »

Hi you wonderful people.

I think I'm just after a bit of reassurance, I've had the 'lump' feeling in my throat for a number of months, it hasn't got any worse so I'm trying to cling onto that fact to keep me from spiralling completely. I never suffered from heartbirn but was prescribed omeprozol in March, one tab daily, and it hasn't made any difference. What I think I'm getting at is, is there ANYONE in the same boat? My chest of late feels very heavy at times and there's definitely a heartburn feeling at times. I've been seen by an ENT doc n had a small camera up nose n down throat n nothing sinister found. Why isn't it all going away then??? I've an appointment next Monday to have the camera down my throat and will be knocked out for it. That's not helping my anxiety when I think about it.

Of course, I've myself dead n buried with all sorts of scenarios in my head.
PLEASE tell me it's all going to be ok. My poor hubby has had to suffer my moaning n anxious thoughts for months now.

I've been on everol 75 from January, as soon as I had my total hysterectomy I was put on the patch. I'm 46 and feel like I'm losing my mind.

I'm sorry for the long winded post but I know you guys will understand.

Much love to you all xx

I've had the lump problem.  My gastric doctor told me it was spasm, caused by reflux or it can be due to stress. I thought my days were numbered but once I was reassured it disappeared.

Hi Jules

Thanks for your kind reply. I thought being told by ENT that there was nothing there that it would've disappeared on me too but unfortunately not. 🥹 It's really getting me down now I'm sick of being scared and sore at times. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling much better.

Big hugs xx

It can be worse once we focus on a 'weird symptom'  ::)

I've had a reflux-type clearing-of-throat really irritating 'thing' for several years, turns out it's due to hidden sugars in food stuffs.  Became noticeable when I swigged a lot of COKE, less so with chocolate.  🍫 .

I now swallow a 'omeprazole' capsule at breakfast to ease symptoms.  Hiatus hernia can also cause similar to what you describe.

Thanks so much for your reply CLKD.

I had a gastric sleeve 2 years ago and I think a hatius hernia is a common problem after rapid weight loss so it could be that.

It's just so annoying and really getting to me, GP did tell me back in March that it was globus sensation but my mind is in complete overdrive as its going on so long. Even the collar of a top irritates me so much.

Thank you so much again for takin the time to help ease my mind.

Big hugs xx

MayB consult your surgeon for advice?  It mayB that the collar is touching the reflex/gag nerve too which won't help.

How have u been after the operation: little and often?

I've never looked back. Have had zero complications or concerns thank goodness. My only regret is not doing it years ago.  When I lie on my left side it really eases my symptoms which is helping me rationalise that it's some sort of reflux 🙏🙏 I'm quite tense (shoulders and neck) too so it could be a whole combination of things. I would just add it's a common feature of anxiety and it was my first symptom. When I stopped being anxious, it went away. x

We all need to try some relaxation exercises perhaps?

Lifting shoulders towards ears and hold
Relax
Turn head to the left and hold
Back to central
Turn head to the right and hold
Back to central

....... and breath ;-).

Drop shoulders as low as possible towards the waist keeping body erect
Relax

Standing in front of a mirror check posture 1 can do these exercises in front of said mirror ;-) 🪞

....... and breath ;-)

Do check foot wear as well as sitting posture, also give yourself a break every hour and walk around.  Slumping may well increase these symptoms = more anxiety  ::)

Hi ladies

Just an update on my 'dodgy' throat situation. I had a full GA yesterday n consultant had a good look at my throat, voice box n oesophagus and it's all clear 🎊 I've woke this morning like a new woman,

Consultant more or less said it was all in my head (in the nicest possible way of course) I just wanted to pop on n let others know Cuz when I was feeling like I was, I clung to the hope that others were in the same boat and was so relieved whenever I read a positive outcome.

There is still inflammation there due to reflux (which I never suffered from until the dreaded meno set in) I've been on omeprozol for months with no change so I'm going to contact my own GP n discuss other options for this.

Have a lovely day, you lovely lot.

Big hugs xx

That's great - 'all in your head'  ::) - there's no nice way of saying that!

How were you after the GA?  Hung over  :-\.

Let us know what the GP suggests?
