Cholesterol
« on: July 12, 2024, 01:39:38 PM »

Do any of the ladies know how to interpret a lipogram? My overall cholesterol reading is 5.8 which is considered high but my so called"good Cholesterol" is excellent and triglycerides very low, so my GP has said they work out a ratio and according to this I am low risk, very confusing but I guess, I have to trust in this theory  ;)

When I had high cholesterol it was 6.9 and they said i was high risk. This was worked out from cholesterol, weight and blood pressure and you need a score less than 10. Mine was 10.5 and they wanted me on statins, i refused. The assessment is based on a 10 year probability of you having an heart attack, stroke or heart related problems in the next 10 years.
I got my cholesterol down to 6.2, blood pressure was 112/81 and I lost 2 stone. Although my cholesterol was still above the recommended 5 at the time my score was 9.2 so I was no longer at risk.
I've not been back since as it caused me too much stress and I suffer with health anxiety.

Everything what is higher than 5 is considered to be high cholesterol level, but you need to pay attention to total cholesterol ratio, because if you have high “good” cholesterol level it means your total ratio may come as normal, in this case you shouldn’t be worried.

Thank you ladies, yes thats what my GP said, that my HDL is excellent as its high and my Triglycerides low so my total cholesterol/hdl ratio is considered normal.
