Anyone else feel like they've got a bug or flu?
« on: June 03, 2024, 02:18:00 PM »

I know I've asked before, but I guage what's wrong with me partly by what's going around and I am a little cut off from others at the moment.  My friend with children says there's nasty bugs about but just wondered here.

Temperature, can't do a lot, nose twitching but no sneezing yet  ;D

. I have a cold now which started last Wednesday. I am at the regular sneeze stage now. Definitely not flu but I did have aching muscles at the start.

My family all had covid last week, all testing negative now and luckily I didn't get it this time.

I have been suffering from a dry cough for the past two weeks. It's not like the flu or a cold. I am totally fine; no body aches, no sneezing, no headache, nothing but this cough is disturbing me a lot. I have tried a lot of treatments, consulted the doctor, had syrup, and also tried some organic medicines, in our language they are called 'Kadha', as suggested by my grandmother. But still, I haven't seen any difference in my dry coughing.
Mainly, the coughing starts at night and disturbs my sleep every night. I have also tried honey; it gives relief for a few hours, but after that, the same situation arises. I don't know why this is stuck and not getting improved. I am facing this for the first time.

Ella - do U have reflux?  My irritating constant clearing-throat cough has been relieved by Omeprazolol taken at breakfast.

Interesting, hope you feel better soon Katejo.

I just feel hot and listless, and a bit sniffly.  I was partly worried it was a tooth infection but I've cleared that, but that was the main reason for posting up.  Always worried something will turn to sepsis after I got cellulitis last year.

I think though it's viral.  A bit better today, covid test was negative but it only started yesterday, too soon to test  ::)

Glad you didn't get it this time Dierdre!

I'm wondering about covid as I've got the shivery legs and this has been a new thing for me ever since the pandemic started, and when we were able to test it was covid.  I'll test in a day or two as yesterday's was negative.

The new FLIRT variant apparently  ;D

Sorry to hear this Ella, I hope this resolves soon.  The only thing I can think of if you have no other sign of infection is whether you're having an allergic reaction, a temporary asthmatic thing?  Has anything changed with your bedding?  Different washing liquid or anything?  Or I wonder if it's hayfever, some people have talked about that being really bad lately.

I really hope you feel better soon.  I would suggest Thyme, but that is more for clearing congestion and it doesn't sound like that (there are recipes out there for use of Thyme to clear congestion, I can come back with one if need be)

that's interesting CLKD.  I get a lot of throat clearing but it's a family trait and it comes in spates, I've never considered this though.

There is some research to suggest that Thyme in some form helps a chronic cough.

When I had tamoxifen I had cold shivers for hours at a time.  An anti-oestrogen drug.

Think the test only works now when you're at your peak of the illness, suppose that means when you're feeling really ill, but if it's a mild case it probably won't show or just a faint line. My lot had various different symptoms with this new variant from feeling like flu, coughing etc and a couple describe it like a 5 day hangover with headache and fatigue. All had a temperature at some point.

Covid-19 is a SARS virus, like the common cold.
